Did you love that Budweiser commercial during the SB or what?
I understand why some people gravitate to something like Budweiser but their marketing attempt there was full of it, IMO. Their marketshare has been declining as people figure out what their palates really want. AB InBev is another giant focusing on acquiring quality brew co.'s in lieu of high quality ingredients (their style includes up to 40% adjuncts like corn and rice and this includes Pabst and MillerCoors, etc.). It's cheaper to produce so it's no question how they've become so big. But then we're all learning: fresh beer is best. Drink it as close to the source as possible. Respect the ingredients and craftsmanship going into it. I don't think they'll be able to turn this ship now and I'm happy for it.
That said, if you walked into my brewery and asked for my help on what to drink, my next question will be, "What is your usual choice?" If you tell me Bud Light or Coors Light, I will never, ever shame you for it. That's obnoxious. It's a gauge to tell me where we need to begin in a microbrew selection. I love that part of my job. Anyone (server, bartender) who does otherwise can go fuck themselves. It's unnecessary and pretentious.
Ok - sorry for my rant.
I loved this response to the Budweiser ad. (Hopefully, this works.)
Yes, I do! I left my long-term corporate career for craft beer. I'm proud to say I work at one of the best in the state.
Sooooo crazy! I swear when I first seen your SN I immediately thought of craft beer and thought maybe your husband was into it hence "Ale Wife." Lol. My husband does a lot of electrical work for craft breweries in San Diego and is now an avid craft beer drinker! It's funny because a lot of the ppl who end up working for microbrewies end up being beer snobs. Glad to know there are a few level headed ppl in the industry
goofygoff Love that video. That's the first time I've seen it so thanks for sharing.
happymamax2 Yeah, it tends to be a male-dominated industry but I think and hope that's changing. Brewing used to be a woman's job, you know! We need to take back the craft. (It really doesn't matter to me who does it as long as it's good beer. Ha.) I just wish women would explore it more before saying "I'm not a beer drinker" because women have excellent palates and beer complexity is really fascinating. I do believe there is something for everyone.
FI and I had a little bit of a heated discussion about the use of forceps/vacuum (is that what's it called in English?). He's really anti use of them and said I can say I don't want them to be used but really is it my choice? I think it's the doctor's call.
I'm making something called "pasta e patate" for lunch. It's a traditional recipe from Naples that FI's been wanting to make for awhile, but it's literally pasta and potatoes. Carb-tastic.
biscotto That's what they call them here at least. And you do have a choice, but it's up to you and what relationship you have with your doctor. I got a big long informed consent form about labor and delivery yesterday, and they brought those up. WHat are your FI's objections?

He's concerned about long term physical damage to the baby mainly. We asked the midwife if we had a say in it and she more or less said no. We have no real relationship with the doctor because you're stuck with whoever is on call at that time.

Same here-no assigned doctor. There's only one l&d doctor at the hospital, otherwise it's midwives.
Would it help if I sent you the informed consent portion about that part of delivery? It'd be later after I'm off work, but it'd be something.

I'd like to see it but I'm in switzerland, so none of it will matter here, sadly :-(.

Right, but this just is telling you the potential risks/side effects of different types and parts of labor. So it would just be the risks for baby/mom in a vacuum assisted delivery, which I don't think changes based on country.

I'm not sure if I would be TOO concerned. I'm not exactly sure how it is in Switzerland in particular, are they intervention happy like they are in the U.S? Typically no one is going to whip out the vacuum unless you're having a real issue with getting the baby out. So if you've been pushing for like 2 hours, it's going no where, and baby's heart rate is wonky , they're officially putting the baby in danger if no intervention is taken. They may try to vacuum before they rush you to C-section. Or you could be pushing for hours and be too tired to keep going if you've been in labor all day. The midwife may have meant that you don't have a choice because in the unlikely event that things go south, you may need intervention for health and safety just like with a c-section.

I'm jumping in!
I am by no means a beer drinker or even much of a drinker at all but I do enjoy tasting craft beers! I like being able to pick out the different flavors that go into a craft beer and explaining them out loud to my husband who usually is just gluging away. I love the process that goes into it and I love how it's more of an art than "well we've been doing it like this for yada years so we don't change"

My hb is really into craft beers. He tries to not buy the same beer over and over to try others. He even got our neighbor into craft beer. I still can't stand it but I have gone on a few brewery tours with him.

Like AleWife said, I wouldn't shame someone for liking beers like Bud or Coors, although I might tease them a bit ; )
But since discovering crafts, I just honestly don't like those beers anymore. It's funny because I used to think people sounded snobby when they said those light beers tasted like water. But since I've stopped drinking them and started drinking IPAs, crafts beers, etc. I get it now. I went to some event where the only beer they had was Coors light. I drank it because it was all they had. And it truly did taste like water! : P
I liked the Budweiser commercial but only because it made me think of my stepdad- a true Budweiser guy if there ever was one.
I don't think I've tried enough micro brews or other 'special' beers to know what I'd like... I am a bud light person! And this is positively shameful because I live so close to so many great breweries that look like great places to hang out. Methinks DH & I really need a date night once baby gets here, we could go get schnockered and are close enough to walk home,
Girrrrrl, snarkysparklefart, you are in Charlotte. We have some gooooooood places here, it is criminal not to check some of them out. There are a few great local breweries up near NODA and OMB is not bad as a nearby option. ;-) Last one we went to was Heist and it is a very cool place to just sit for hours and do beer flights and eat their yummy food.

jennyp0222 there are breweries popping up alll over south end. Meanwhile I'm haggardly couch drinking bud light and world market wine when not KU.. I promise I'll get my life together one of these days PP and try some of the local fare. I'm in walking distance of so many alcohol options, it's almost shameful that I haven't tried anything new!
