Figured I should get around to this!
I went in for my 37 week appt on 2/1 in the early afternoon with MH. I packed both our bags beforehand "just in case." The appt was great and everything looked normal. The OB almost forgot to do my cervical check and I asked her about it. She did the check and was like "OMG Brittney! You're really dilated. Like 5cm!" And I said "what does that mean?" And she told me we should do my c-section that evening! I was in shock. She said she could feel my waters bulging and didn't feel comfortable sending me home because baby was breech and I could go anytime. My OB's office is at the hospital, so we just went right upstairs and checked in. It was about 3:30-4 at this time and my section was planned for 6 pm. MH and I waited in the pre-op room and I was SO uncomfortable in that bed, fully pregnant. I got the IV fluids and meds and my BP started rising slightly. I started to feel very anxious and started thinking I couldn't do all of it! Fast forward to 6; once I got in the OR I started to calm down. After I got spinal and cath placed, MH came in. We did a family centered cesarean and had a clear drape. OB was accompanied by her partner and they were both so positive --- the partner even remarked about how skinny I was and what great abs I had LOL. I like him. After some tugging around, baby was born at 6:44 pm. He was in shock at first so they had to puff him with the hand respirator for a few moments. I kept asking if he was OK and the OBs just kept saying he was fine and really cute and had great red hair. I finally heard him cry and MH got up to look at him. He initially had major breech legs up by his face. Kinda cute, kinda scary! They brought him to me and put him on my chest for a good 30 minutes. As we were finishing they told me he would have to go to the nursery for 3 hours (from birth time) due to failing the first APGAR for the shock, even though his second APGAR was 9/10. I went to recovery and MH went with baby - he was able to do skin to skin for an hour there and I'm so thankful for that. I went to recovery and by that time my mom had arrived and sat with me. I continued to have elevated BPs for a couple of days, but not enough for them to ever start meds. MH brought in the baby to recovery and I was overjoyed. We did more skin to skin and he latched perfectly. We went back to L&D due to my BP and I was on bed rest. The next morning we got to go to postpartum recovery. I was in hospital Mon-Thurs. I've had a rough recovery with the BP, c-section, a spinal headache, and a pretty bad case of baby blues... But it's so worth it when I look at my beautiful baby boy. I just love him so much!
