Sunday Funday Randoms with a Valentine theme

HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY.

I promise no singing dwarfs! Okay, so I kinda love Valentine's Day. Not the commercialized version with the expectation of flowers, cards, and chocolates. DH and I always try to spend the day together if we can, but I like the sentiment of Valentines Day.

Growing up, my parents ALWAYS, no matter what day of the week today was on, woke my sib and I up to a table laden with a red tablecloth, a V-day themed breakfast. Mom always got us chocolates, Dad always got us flowers, there were cards for everyone on our usual placemat, and we sat down together for a big breakfast before heading out to face the day. And I loved it. I sooo want to do this for our littles once they are old enough.

So now I'm wistfully thinking of Valentines day future as DH and I get ready to go out and do our brunch today. (We had originally planned on spending a long day at the zoo, but um, well, it's way too cold. No thanks.)

macaronmama - that's so sweet! My mom always made us a little Valentine's Day basket of goodies, something I hope to continue with our kiddos.

DH gave me a beautiful necklace and I made chocolate chip pancakes, so it's been a nice V day so far. We're planning on going to the indoor pool later and otherwise taking it easy.

I woke up to a text from my dad, H made me chocolate chip waffles, I gave him a card and beef jerky. We're going out grocery shopping in a bit, and we're going to buy a new washer/dryer set today. Tax money hit the account, so happy dance over here!

We're going out to dinner later with my BFF and her H and DS, and possibly her parents. As long as the roads don't get bad. We're expecting snow tonight and tomorrow night.

I'm wondering how on earth I'll make it to 10pm tonight for The Walking Dead. I've been in bed at 9 the last few nights.

My mom used to give us a heart-shaped box of chocolates and a card. DH and I don't celebrate it, but I always get the kids a little box of candy and a small stuffed animal. They were so happy to each get a Beanie Boo to add to their collections this morning.

We're going to my parents' house later for family dinner to celebrate the January/February birthdays. It's so cold out that I really don't want to go outside! And I'm really hoping nobody brings wine, so that I don't have to give an excuse. I never turn down an offer of booze, so social functions are going to be tough. People are going to start getting suspicious, especially on the 26th, when my SIL, my friend and I are going to the Garth Brooks concert. Oh, and I'm going to Paint Nite this Wednesday with a couple of friends from work. The whole point of Paint Nite is drinking while you paint. Oy. LOL

The brunch thing fell through and DH is moping around the house now, so I'm trying really hard to find a way to salvage the morning over here. Hoping I can pull him out of his funk because otherwise this is just gonna spiral.

BUT - remaining positive, VDAY is still awesome.

I think I'm going to use weight loss as an excuse. I think people might buy that because I have gained a lot of weight in the past couple of years. I might say that I'm not drinking until I hit certain weight loss goals. And then I'll just have to make sure I wear my tummy covering sweaters if it starts getting bigger in the meantime.

We don't really celebrate, but DH did send me chocolate covered strawberries on Thursday. We gave DS (13) his valentines gift early so we could tell him about the baby. He got mud boots that he's been asking for and I made him a Big Brother T-shirt.

It's also obnoxious cold here today so I don't think we are going anywhere today.

DD wore her heart tights to church this morning and had a little boy chase her all around the fellowship hall and sanctuary after the service.

DH has to work on some drywalling in our basement this afternoon and I've got two assignments to crank out in between demands for attention from DD. Exciting Valentine's day for us.

As far as wine etc- I've been saying that I did dry January and decided to continue til st pattys. People buy it.

Thanks jwinct, it didn't really work. Mostly I broke down crying (hormones:1, me:0), alarmed him, made us both mopey, but we've recovered, gotten groceries, and are going to do a fancy breakfast for dinner instead.

Listening to how hard some of you guys have to hide that you are pregnant makes me glad that we don't drink and that our families are far, far away.

I told everyone I gave up booze for Lent. I'm not sure my parents fully bought it, but it worked. And we won't see them again until Easter so I will announce then if all goes well or have a drink with them if it doesn't.

Since we had family over Friday and Saturday for DS's birthday, we aren't doing anything today. I'm thrilled for the very lazy day. And super excited to have tomorrow off, though less excited for snow/ice.

H had to work, so it's just DS and I again. We've sort of just been hanging out, having a lazy day. It's been nice. MH is making me dinner tonight, so I'm glad I don't have to do that.

@holachica my DS' birthday party is next weekend too, and since it's mainly family we are going to tell them at the end of the party. My plan is to get a bud light bottle or some dark bottled beer and just fill it with ginger ale. That way I can still drink it

So many cute valentines day stories! I hope the weather gets better for everyone! It's also colder here but it's perfectly doable can't complain!

We had the bday party and it was lovely! !! So much fun! But now DS is overstimulated and can't sleep for the life of him. Poor guy just keeps crying :/ tooooo muuuuch fun.

We thought about using the 'giving up alcohol for lent' thing, but that would have been just as out of character for me as not having a glass of wine with dinner. So, we're just avoiding the question altogether and if there's anyone we can't avoid it with (close friends and family) I guess they'll find out early.

DH and I just exchanged cards this year. He'd bought me 4 roses on Thursday when we found out so we said to keep low key this year.

ETA: wine. I told a close friend since she and I had a wine/girls night planned for next week and she'd be pushy if I cancelled without rescheduling. We are doing a dinner with a group of friends Friday that I am not close enough to tell so I will have a glass and sip. DH knows to take big drinks when possible to allow me to refill. I'll prolly stage an almost empty glass when folks arrive (drinking while cooking.)

My employer chickened out over two inches of snow and we're closed today! YIPPEE.
