yummeecookee, do you think he may be sick? Is he pulling at his ears at all. Does he cry when you lay him flat?
I'm only asking bc when L acted like this in the past he had an ear infection.
He was sick over the weekend w high fevers (101, 102) and no other symptoms. I took him to UC bc there were no appointments available w his pedi. The fevers stopped by Wed morning. But since then he's had a little bit of goopy eyes. I haven't noticed any ear pulling. How else do they diagnose an EI? I wasn't too convinced when UC said he was fine and prolly just has a little virus that he needed to fight. But since the fevers cleared up, I've just left it.

He may have only had a virus then and now could have an ear infection. That's usually how it happens with L. They diagnose it by looking in their ears. If it's red and bulging they have an ear infection. If the drum is white, it's fine.

Make sure they check the ears for sure. The doc was more concerned about DD2's cough and practically had us out the door until I asked her to check the ears and then I get "oh yeah, that's a really bad ear infection". So annoying. I work with animals and I'd be in huge trouble if I did a check that wasn't nose to tail checking everything over, and I'm forever asking a doctor to check a kids ears. Ear infections are so common.

They can come up so quickly too. I have had L at the dr one day and his ears were fine but he had a virus. 2-3 days later I was back and he would have a full blown ear infection. Poor guy would just scream his head off and I was clueless until I started picking up on his signs.

Always, always have them check the ears!
And also, they can be tricky with the signs. DD1 had ear infections constantly for a year before she grew out of them and never once tugged her ears. So even if I'm not sure, I always get them to check the ears. It takes 10 seconds and they should be anyway.
L used to not run a fever with an ear infection until he suddenly did. It isn't a high fever, more like 101 or 102, and he will scream nonstop. He usually has already had the infection for a few days before it gets to that point. It's also hard to see them tugging their ears sometimes.
The signs are tricky, which is why it took me awhile to figure them out.
I'm super paranoid about ear infections now. If I feel the slightest rise in temperature with L I immediately take his temp rectally. If it gets to 101 I make an appointment bc 9/10 times its his ears.

Well I posted in the daily confirming it, but @babylentilbean, was right on. I have got to learn what to watch for. My DD never had these issues.
