So, CDC recommends women of childbearing age abstain from alcohol to avoid alcohol related birth defects. No recommendations to use birth control or condoms or even abstain from alcohol if you think you may become pregnant. Basically just don't because you could get pregnant and there is a chance of complications. So because of this chance of a chance = abstain. Misguided and completely asinine at best.
Ehh...we don't know how long the virus can live in semen, but use a condom and that should minimize the risk sufficiently for our liking.
Shouldn't there be a general guideline to minimize the risk for any defect? Am I reading too hard into this or does it seem the CDC is saying "women you can't help the fact you might become pregnant (even though you can) so just don't. We don't believe you can make sound decisions about you own body and the well being of said child when it comes to the intersection of alcohol and sex, so...."and saying "Dudes, we understand you still need to get laid so just use a condom. We are cool with that."
On one had avoid any remote possibility, on the other let's roll the dice. Yes condoms are very effect at reducing risk, but only if used correctly. And the most recent data suggests there is s 12% failure rate.
