It's my understanding that you cannot reliably use a fetoscope until 20-22 weeks, but was curious if anyone had any experience with them. If you have used one before, were you able to use it yourself or only someone else can use it? Do you have any brand or particular recommendations for one? Thanks ladies!!
Wow, old school! I work in maternity and haven't actually seen one used. Guess most everyone is relying on dopplers and EFM now. Nothing wrong with some old fashioned technology, though.
I don't see why you couldn't use one on yourself. You wouldn't be able to do the whole rest-your-forehead-on-the-end-of-it move, but it should still work. I imagine it would take a little time and patience (like using a doppler at an earlier gestation does), but the reward would be pretty neat.
I see Amazon has them for around $20. Hard to go wrong with that.

My midwife used one with DD...DD actually indirectly kicked the midwife in the forehead once. You could use the ear pieces, but not the forehead piece.

For $40 more you can buy a doppler. This is my dilemma. Plus, Dh doesn't want to be all freaked out if we can't hear it so we are avoiding all for now.

I'm not at all concerned with the cost. I just would rather not expose my baby to any ultrasound waves that are not necessary. We are not using a doppler at all at any point and the fetoscope is the only other option. Was just curious if any one had any experience with them as I've seen mixed reviews. Thanks for the replies ladies!!
