Hi everyone! I am so thrilled and nervous to be moving over to PAIF. I am really excited to see so many familiar faces!
Alittle lot of background on me:
My husband and I (45 and 35 respectively) started trying to conceive in April 2013. My husband had been taking Androgel to treat low testosterone for a few years, and coincidentally decided to try to figure out the root cause of the issue that fall. The first urologist said his sperm count was fine, and he decided to get a second opinion. We were stunned when we learned my husband had a sperm count of only 1 million because of the Androgel, and were referred to a fertility specialist.
The fertility specialist told us we would need IVF and ICSI. My husband banked sperm within a few days and his counts had rebounded to 57 million just a few days after ending the Androgel, which our RE never mentioned as a likely possibility. We decided to clean house on all of our doctors because we hated our fertility specialist, and both my OB-GYN and our general practitioner also didn't tell us about the side effects of Androgel either (which is apparently well known).
In December 2013 we found an RE we loved, and my husband's MFI had diminished enough for us to try with timed intercourse again. We added in Letrizole for a few months and had no luck. In June 2014 we moved on to IUI with Clomid, and 2 cycles of that gave us BFNs. I convinced my insurance to reconsider covering an HSG in August (we hadn't done it earlier because insurance was refusing to cover it and my RE estimated I only had a 5% chance of tubal issues), and learned I had a blocked tube and outpouching in the other, indicating neither probably works as desired. We were back to IVF.
In November 2014 we did our first IVF cycle. We retrieved 13 eggs, 11 mature, and did partial ICSI. Of the 6 without ICSI, none fertilized. 3 fertilized from ICSI, and we transferred 0ne 3 day embryo, which resulted in a BFN.
We got one frozen embryo from that cycle. We debated doing another fresh cycle to get more embryos, but ultimately decided to do a FET with our one embryo, which resulted in a BFP! My first beta was 1/27 at 126, and my second beta was 2/2 at 1930. My first ultrasound is scheduled for 2/6, which is a little early, but we're out of town next week so they opted to have us do it before we go.
I'm only 5 weeks, 3 days so it feels really new, scary and exciting right now.
Other fun facts about me: I am a software consultant and work from home, I like to travel and swim a lot, my husband works in music so we get to see/meet a lot of bands, and we have three kitties (lilyharper, our last one is a rescue too, from Katrina!)
ETA: This was my 100th post and I'm now a member! Woohoo!
