It could be hand foot and mouth maybe too. It supposedly starts with a fever a couple of days before the rash shows up. G's started with a rash in his diaper area that spread to his mouth And then his hands and feet. I don't know anything about impetigo though.

That's what I initially thought but then DH googled and that's when he brought up impetigo. I'm thinking it could be HFM as the fever was before the rash. And if she has blisters in her throat maybe it caused her to be so hysterical last night. So far nothing on her hands or feet though. hmm.
Yeah. Unfortunately it can be really hard to tell. The only reason that I figured it out with G was that a coworkers son got it a few months before and was texting me about his symptoms. And his rash showed up on a Saturday morning so we couldn't get into the doctor until that Monday. I hope G has a good night and that it is not as bad as either thing. It's so tough trying to figure this stuff out.

I will say this. If it is hfm. I can be very painful. We pretty much alternated Tylenol and Motrin around the clock for several days because he was so unhappy. And we had a night similar to yours last night where he woke up middle of the night and just would not stop crying and we were strongly debating going to the ER. We ended up just driving around for. Not until he fell asleep in the car. And the pedi did say that while they can get hfm again the first time is typically the worst and subsequent times are much more minor. Not much consolation right now though. Good luck.
I never gave dude anything--he was just subdued and off his food while he had blisters--and didn't want to walk the first day they came on his feet. The rash started on his mouth (looked like cold sores or a rash from his paci) and butt. Then hands and feet popped a day or two later. Butt was the worst.
But I'm still dealing with the after affects of peeling skin from the blisters on his hands.
Supposedly day cares don't car if they're blistery, just not the fever stage, because it's so common and generally mild. You will get immune to it once you have it, but only to the specific strain and their are like a million of them.
I forgot about the peeling. My pedi said something about how toenails could fall off too. Fun stuff.
Aw shit @giamia923, I'm so sorry about G, poor little girl can't catch a break I hope she sleeps better tonite and let us know how her appt goes tomorrow. GL

I totally thought DD had impetigo a week ago as she had a blistery diaper rash and no other blisters. She did end up having HFM but it just started in the diaper area first, she was even kind enough to share and I have HFM now too. To help with diaper rash our pediatrician said to mix Maalox and cornstarch to form a paste and then add equal amount of desitin and mix. It works and helped with the diaper rash quite a bit.

I fully expected to get him from G but either I somehow missed it or it was mild enough that I didn't notice. I hope you too get over it quickly.
