Naming and the difference in peer groups

One of my friends just welcomed her second son into the world.  Daniel joins brother Michael.

My younger brother's group also recently welcomed a little boy,  Bowden.

I thank the gods all the time that no one in my immediate family got the crazy name gene. So far, all of my cousins' kids have great names.

My distant cousin in Iowa has a teenage son named Gaylan.

My cousin's baby is about to be Harley Mae, so there's that. Out of my friends, the newest one is Eleanor, so no complaints there.

Out of the people I know, there are very few that are well named. The latest are Kellee, Jefferson, and Jackson. I prefer Kelly on a boy, and that spelling just ugh. I extremely dislike Jefferson, and Jackson is just boring.

My similarly aged friends' most recent names are Ava and Russell (Russ).

My SIL (14 years younger) just named their new cat Khloe, because she and her husband both have K names. I am just happy it now can't be used on a future child. I will do my best to lobby for a real K name when that time comes (it's a done deal that all future children will be K names).

My SIL is about to have little Analeese in the next few weeks. I like the name but the spelling makes me facepalm. The thing that I find interesting is that I woul expect this sort of name from a younger crowd. But I am almost 30 and she's a good 10 years older than I am. I don't know why but that's the part that bugs me most.

A friend of mine has a daughter, Avalon, and a son, Alucard (yes, Dracula backwards)... Our kids are almost exactly the same age and we share hobbies, and she is otherwise lovely, there's just no accounting for taste.

Last night my brother and SIL welcomed my new nephew Rory.

Last month my cousin welcomed her youngest Kinley.

When I was younger I thought my cousin's kids have unusual names, but now that I am older, I appreciate them more although they are still NMS. They are Kier.nan, Row.an, and Sull.ivan. Another cousin on the other side of the family has Jus.tice, and Pax.ton. Pax.ton is okay but I don't think I will ever understand Jus.tice.

The weirdest name I have ever come across in real life is Way.mon in DD's daycare class; I assume it is from a different ethnicity.

I really think there is a correlation between names and ages of the mother when the child was born. Correlation =/= causation and I could totally be wrong since I dont have any research on the topic, but I know a LOT of young moms and so many of the names are awful. Emmalynn, Gracelynn, Emmaleigh, and Bentleigh (?!) to name a few. While my friends who had children when they were older have kids named Lilly, Jude, Hannah, Everett, Eli...you know, more normal/professional names. It'd be interesting to see a study on that.

I have a friend with grandson Easton. His brother is Gabriel so not sure what happened.
My family is fairly traditional and most have names I like very much, we do have a Peyton (f) and Madison that are sisters.

Yes, I would absolutely point it out to her, and suggest she spell it Anneliese. If she uses it at all.

my group of friends welcomed Phillipe, Arianne and Elisabeth last year.
This year my cousin is pregnant with a girl J.o-E.l why she cant go with Joelle is beyond me. She joins older broker B.rock.

A friend's DD is Mayson (NN May)...ugh. Another friend is having a girl in a few weeks named Amelia. Close friends just adopted a little girl that they named Helen. Overall, I think most of my friends are making good choices.

Love Brandon and Quentin personally. Ainsely is meh for me and when I was pregnant with DD, Michaela was on my long list, but that spelling. Hate the Mc spelling.

I have a young cousin who just delivered Emilia Rose and is in her mid 20's.
My sister in law (late 30's) just had an Emma and now my other cousin who is pregnant (mid 20's) is thinking of naming their's Emma Grace ...
If I never hear Emma or Grace again it will be too soon.
There have been a flurry of odd names around here lately. Yesterday a good friend who seems otherwise sensible delivered a beautiful baby girl who she named Koda. WHAT?? Why??
I can't seem to make an correlation between age of the mother and bad names except to note that my naming taste is vastly different than it was when I had DD who is now 7.
