So, I know its still early for registries, however, I wanted a thread where we could post sales or just stuff we would recommend through experience to get. I can say that I am pretty excited about baby shopping on black friday, even though thats still a million months away... Plus im on bed rest and bored. This basically means amazon.
Off the top of my head, something that definitely helped me with a newborn were quickzip crib sheets. Basically if the baby wets the bed, you dont have to get the mattress out to change the sheet. You just unzip the top of the sheet, change mattress top protector (dont get fitted ones) and zip in new sheet. You can do this with your baby in the other arm. Just genius.
Also, I wouldn't put any powder, lotions, shampoo's on there as I had received 5+ each of them at my baby shower. Those things are pretty inexpensive, so easy to pick up anytime and last a long time.
We got a lot of baby towels... while cute, regular towels work just fine and that's what we end up using most of the time.
I'm a big fan of sleepers!!!! DD is 10 months and I still like to put her in them. Here in WI, it gets cold... I love going out and knowing that her little ankles aren't hanging out of her pants, and that she's all covered up. Can never have too many sleepers.
I love using the video monitor with babies. If you're thinking of buying one, buy the protection! My dad gave me one for my shower and I broke it after 10 months. As in totally broke and burnt the sucker. I recently bought another and contemplated buying the insurance and just forgot. And my toddler broke it. That one didn't even last a month.
hmr11913, omg yes, baby towels are so cute but are outgrown so fast.
Gerber prefold cloth diapers are WAY better for burp rags than the cutesy burp cloths.
I use them for that too! I had them monogramed, so theyre super cute and if you need to bf in a pinch they help cover a bit. Ill post pucs of my "burp cloths"
Can y'all also share your wisdom on maternity clothes? I know I have a way to go before it's a need, but I like to plan ahead.
Dont buy maternity tops, buy nursing tops - if youll plan on bf, theyre a better investment. Similarly buy shirts that are easy to pop out a boob later when baby is out.
By the last trimester i only fit in maxi dresses. None of my maternity pants fit me from when i bought them late in my first trimester because i swelled so much. Back then i would panic thinking i was just over eating- turns out I gained 55 pounds, and most of it was just water retention(excluding baby weight of course).... What in trying to say is, dont buy all the clothes in one fell swoop. Buy only basic needs as you grow.

It's going to be interesting finding maternity clothes that fit and are work-appropriate. I'm plus size to begin with, so I figure I won't really start showing until towards the end.

I bought a coat on sale already, it was $25.
I just watched sales. I'm not someone who wants to spend $200 on 3 things just because they are cute. You only wear this stuff for 5-6 months and chances are that won't all fall in the same season, so shop sales and buy a variety.
I have 2 summer babies so I have a ton of tanks and shorts from then, but I'm finding I'll probably need pants and warmer clothes this time. I buy like 5 bottoms (skirts, jeans, shorts, etc) and then tops that can go with multiple bottoms.
I also am not a fan or nursing clothes. I just wore regular clothes with a nursing tank under it. Then I could lift my outside shirt up but still have coverage. Again, I'm all about versatility and I'm not spending a ton on specific nursing tops.

I'm obsessed with maternity clothes. I've already bought 2 new items. It's weird.
I do too! I'm also noticing my bloat much more this time than with my other pregnancies. So my pants are snug. Not because I'm showing but because I'm already overweight and baby 3 bloat is intense.
I think I'm generally a classic dresser, so my current plan is to just buy basics and dress things up with accessories I can wear during and after (fun jewelry, scarves, wraps/sweaters/shrugs, etc.). I don't want to buy a ton of clothes, but I'll need work-appropriate things. I'm thinking plain black dress, black pants, leggings with longer tops, etc. I'll probably need at least one fancy dress, but that's what sales are for. Really, I'm just curious about when I'll start showing. I'm kind of hoping for a bump-free summer, so i can wait until fall to get maternity clothes, but I have no idea. I'm generally on the average/thin side, so I don't know if that will mean showing earlier or later. So many questions!
I'm late to this but I tried both side to side and front to back strollers and MUCH prefer side to side. The front to back ones are way too hard to steer!
I will add a couple of my fave items too: Rock n Play for the first few weeks/months for the baby to sleep in. It was the perfect thing; and it's elevated so it helps if your baby gets congested. We missed the first three weeks of our LO's life, but I hardly used receiving blankets at all. I saved a few muslin blankets and that is probably all I'll use. Our little guy is such a hot sleeper though, that even in the dead of winter he'd be sweating being swaddled in anything heavier than muslin. And then we had to stop using even those!
I think a warm carseat cover is a must too! I have one that is specifically for winter; but now just use a blanket if it's a little cool in the morning.
A bouncer and a swing are great too; I didn't think we would need those at first, but we ended up really glad to have them. We borrowed all of this from friends whose babies had just outgrown them.
Diapers with a strip on them to tell you when they're wet!
Humidifiers and sound machines are also a must I think.
I saw this mentioned in the D15 greeting to our BMB-but there is a lot of stuff that you just don't have to buy right away. Baby stuff can be so expensive!
Guys I just spiraled on registering on Amazon. It started as "oh that's cute!" and "I remember needed that a lot when I nannied a newborn-one year old".
Totally did the same recently. I keep bugging DF because I can't figure out which stroller we actually need. He keeps telling me we have plenty of time, but the planner in me is screaming that it needs to be complete now.
I also nannied newborns, and I feel like it at least gives you a bit of an idea of what to buy/what definitely not to buy.
