Our house loves to collect ice. It's a huge problem. I spend my afternoons hammering ice off of it. This morning I accidentally broke a storm window. Then I walk into our playroom and the carpet is soaking wet from ice getting into our siding and then melting. I'm just at a loss. My DH is on his way home from work to help, but I'm freaking out. There's also water damage in our wall. We shovel, roof rake, and hammer ice off of our house constantly. It won't end. Does anybody know anything about insurance? Do you think insurance might help? I'm so stressed.
Yes insurance should def help call your local agent and ask. Also my parents have a flat roof that hangs a certain way. And if your roof is not flat I would get heaters installed that will help melt everything. You can also get these wire things that reroute how snow slides so that you don't get snow and ice buildup.

Oh no! I'm so sorry! I am in florida, so all of that is completely foreign to me, but I would think insurance should help. You would just have to pay your deductible, which I would imagine is cheaper than replacing all of that! Definitely give your agent a call.
Our dishwasher leaked last year and flooded our kitchen and living room. They had someone out with these huge fans within an hour to start drying everything and minimize the damage.
When we bought our house, it had no gutters, so we put gutters on it the next summer. Come to find out that since the back of our house gets so much morning sun, the gutters just filled with ice and backed up under the shingles....luckily the damage wasn't bad, the water came through the window frame in our bathroom and just the sheetrock behind the toilet.
I ran a heating cable through the gutter on the backside of the house and, knock on wood, we haven't had a problem with ice the last three winters. Good luck!
