I'm collecting a lot of info on BLW. I think it might be the best fit for our family, but not opposed to purees, but I would probably try to have them homemade as well.
Since his birth didn't go the way I thought it would, and I haven't been able to EBF, I just feel like I want something to go the way I thought it would. I mean, I'm open minded and have been going with the flow, but seriously, grr.
I don't quite trust jarred food from the store- it's so hard to just find reliably packaged foods. I try to buy as many whole foods that are organic and local as possible and would like to just start with real food.
Doing the research now with the basics so I have an idea of how to start when it is time.

DH and I cook a lot and generally enjoy it so I've been looking forward to the prospect of making our own baby food. Plus someone got me the baby bullet for our shower and I've got a vitamix so I'm kind of excited to try new things out. I tend to make our own applesauce already and generally make a lot of our own ingredients for things so I'm looking forward to solids (not in a rush for it, but looking forward to it).

We will do a combination. Purees will be store bought, I just don't want to do any more dishes. You know? The ingredients are listed on the jars and we buy organic. I admire those of you that make the time to make all the purees.
I don't know what BLW means! But I planned on making my own baby food - steaming and blending. And what's vitamix? I'm definitely following this thread; so much to learn!

BLW is baby led weaning. I have only my left hand to type, but basically you skip purees and start them feeding themselves with soft foods/etc. There's tons of info if you google it. If I have the opportunity I will post some links later if you're interested.
Vitamix is a really good blender. I have the ninja which is similar but the vitamix is high quality

so glad you posted this, this is something I've been wanting to ask about.
we want to make our own baby food, we got a ninja for our wedding and haven't really put it to much use yet. when I first brought up to DH before we had Henry, he was surprisingly really into it. now he's kind of on the fence about it, but its something that I really want to try out.
and I'm going to be a major noob here, but what does BLW mean?
I did homeade purées last time, so that is what I will do again this time. It worked well and I always knew exactly what was in the food and where it came from. I would make a batch of whatever, freeze it into ice cube trays and then transfer the cubes to labeled zip lock bags. Then I could just pull out a few cubes and put them in a bowl on the counter to thaw. Super simple and much, much cheaper than buying baby food.
My biggest concern is choking. I have been certified in the past for cpr and choking and all those classes but might want a refresher class with DH before we start
Nothing but breast milk for 6 months. At that point we'll start offering table food. The plan is for BLW. My first we did a combo of purées and BLW at 6mo. My second would not take solid food until he could feed himself, which was somewhere around 8-9 months. So strictly BLW with our second. We'll try both with Marie and see which she prefers. If I had my choice, it would be BLW
BLW sounds interesting. I might do that and homemade purees, because steaming and blending veggies just seems too easy. And economical. DH won't be here for the process, so I'll decide when the time comes.
I'm excited about BLW. It seems to be what all my friends have done and it worked really well. I'd rather not spend a lot of time or money on separate food.
I think it will be fun to watch him explore foods himself. Over feeding is something I really am trying not to do. In my family almost everyone is obese. I'm pretty sure my 11 year old niece weighs as much as I do and I'm nearing 6ft tall. I just really want my kids to have a healthy relationship with food. It took me a long, long time to get there. I think it seems to be a good way for him to learn when he likes something, when he is full, etc.

I did exactly this with my first and loved it. I plan to do it again this time around. Honestly, BLW made me nervous so I didn't feel it was a good fit for me. I'm a little less terrified of breaking my child this time around, so I may do a little BLW with the homemade purees

We probably won't introduce solids until 6-9 months ish? So long as my supply holds up. I for sure won't be buying pre-made baby foods, I think they're nasty (and expensive). We will probably do some BLW, some homemade purees, and I also plan to get a baby food grinder like this. My mom had one with all my siblings (one of them lasted through all 7 of us) and it was waaay easy! Whatever the rest of us were eating for that meal got scooped, ground, and fed, right there at the table. It took 2 minutes and the consistency still had something to chew for texture, but didn't require molars.
I think we'll end up doing a combo of purées and BLW. H is excited to make food for LO in the vitamix and I love the idea of giving her the chance to explore solid food in her own way.

We will be doing a combo of all three. I was always planning on making my own, but I was also always planning on being a SAHM. Since I don't have a set time for sure when that will happen, and I don't expect DH to make stuff, I wanther to be used to both store bought and stuff I make, just in case we run out.
Pips is already showing interest in food, though she'll have to wait until she's six months. I'm in no hurry to rush to solids. I have a really great pic from dinner out the other night at this Brazilian resturant, where she was seriously eyeballing some bacon wrapped beef on my plate. I'd post it but my seriously lame untech savvy self can't figure out how to post pics (I know it's Picture button on the top bar, but I don't know what to do beyond that).
We plan on doing a mix of homemade purees (we got a baby bullet as a gift) and BLW. We probably won't introduce solids until after he is 6 months though.
The first go around with DD, I planned to make all of her purees and even got a baby bullet as a gift. I definitely didn't use it as much as I could have. I got Earth's Best purees for her and felt comfortable giving that to her since it was made with organic ingredients. I gave the baby bullet away, so this time I'll probably just go straight to Earth's Best purees. I'm too chicken shit to do BLW.

I am going to be honest and say I have not even thought of this yet. I do know he will be EBF until 6 months and then introduce solids. I will have to research more. The pediatrician had recommended that we first start with introducing iron fortified rice cereal. How soon do we introduce baby food. How time consuming is puree food. I have Ninja that works well. Sorry for all the questions

I don't think anything but breastmilk or formula until 6 months (old school people say four, but their tummies really aren't ready for that). You can start with rice cereal or skip it all together. I'm not sure how time consuming purees are, but probably weekly prep of steaming veggies, pureeing and freezing could probably take a couple hours? I would be using my ninja as well.
I've always planned on making homemade purees, but I'm finding the idea of blw intriguing. I'm going to read up as much as I can on it now, so I can be ready when LO is ready to start solids.
