Daughter has peanut allergy, can I eat peanuts??

I'm trying to find something on the internet about this and in the process of contacting a lactation consultant. 

LO, who is 14 months, broke out in hives after having peanut butter for the third time. It's not confirmed, but we have an appointment for an allergist.

It makes me nervous  now to eat peanut butter. Will it have any effect on her if I eat it and breastfeed?

have you been eating it all along?
peanut allergies are scary, because they can be anaphylactic reactions and that they may get worse fast.
So I would avoid because the peanut proteins can pass thru your breastmilk.
as well as contact, smell, inhaling peanut fumes may cause a reaction.
Until you know the extent I would avoid completely peanuts or peanut butter. I might continue to eat things that are "processed in a plant that may process peanuts" as that amt is usually ok.

I'd rather be safe than sorry though.

Yes, I've been eating it all a long. She had her first reaction on Tuesday and it didn't occur to me till today that I probably shouldn't be eating peanuts. Thank you for your adivce!

Nut proteins aren't supposed to pass through milk in the same ways as others, but I'd hold off until your can see an allergist. My lo has a severe egg allergy. We only noticed it when she had egg directly the first time. Since then, she gets systemic hives if I have egg -- even a little.

Sunbutter (sunflower seed butter) is a yummy and pretty safe aleternative for both of you (we also had peanut and treenut allergies, although most of those have cleared now).

my son has a peanut and tree nut allergy, and his allergist has me avoiding them, too. But his allergies were diagnosed when he was EBF before solids. I'd ask the allergist ASAP.
