I lately have been loving the name Anna, but it rhymes with my fn. Is that weird? I know joy has said before that her name rhymes with her dad's, and it's never been a big deal, but I just wonder if a mom and daughter with rhyming names would be weirder?
Considering Annalise too (I know a lot of people don't like this spelling but Ann is my grandmother's mn and Alise is mine, so it's significant to me).
Options: Anna Catherine Anna Dorothy Anna Evangeline Anna Isobel Anna Juliet Anna Marigold Anna Olivia Anna Ruby Anna Seraphina

I would say no way if it were siblings, but I have no issues with it for mother/daughter. My favorites are Anna Evangeline, Anna Seraphina, and Anna Catherine.
If it's Anna and Hannah - yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah... I wouldn't do it. They're just basically the same name since the H doesn't have a strong sound.
I'm actually struggling to come up with name that rhymes but doesn't sound like an elaboration of Anna. I can't. Like, Susanna rhymes with Anna, but it's just Anna with more decoration?
Yes, my name rhymes with my Dad's name and it wasn't a big deal. My name was often changed to a cutesy nickname, though. Would Anna ever be Annie?
In short - our names were distinctly different and clearly male/female. Think like Roy and Joy. I'm having a harder time with Anna and anything that ends in Anna feeling like two distinct names.

Oh HC totally wants to name her Annie (from Little Einstein's) and my H likes it.
If your name is Hannah, Joanna, Susanna, etc. then I say no to Anna for your daughter. joy 's example of Joy and Roy I dont find nearly as matchy matchy

I'll delete this later, but it's *poof*.
*Eta, I'm still unsure of the name etymology. I've always been told it was Hebrew and the feminine form of *poof* and means "God is gracious," but BTN doesn't have that. They only have *poof*, which is not my name. I also know there is a connection with a Roman goddess, but I don't know much about it.
You guys. HC said he wants a baby sister named Anna. It's breaking my heart.
I missed your poof a few months ago, so I don't know how close they are. But as long as it's not like Hannah and Anna I would probably go ahead and use it. My answer would possibly change though, if it's a name I'm not thinking of.

It's very similar. My name ends in "Anna" so....
I mean if, for example, my name were Marianna, I would still consider naming my kid Anna. My name is Alyssa, and I would still name my kid Alice even though they're essentially the same name. I'm just don't care as much about matchy when it comes to parent/child names as I do for sibling names. That's just because I really love Alice (and Anna!) though.
Hannah and Anna I wouldn't do,but something like Joanna or Susannah and Anna I'd say ok. Especially if you'd call her Annie as a nn. You could also do a Anna variation like Anya or Annika.
There's a lot of men that have, or want, a junior/III/IV and many people don't see a problem with that. If it's fine for guys to give the same exact name, or rhyming names, I don't see why it would be a problem for a mother and a daughter.

Huh? A junior/III etc. is not the same as a rhyming name. Same name vs. rhyming name. This really isn't a men vs. women thing. Also, I also don't like junior/IIIs

I'm sorry, I should have quoted so I made more sense. I was going off the question of whether it was weird or not. I wasn't trying to make it a male vs female type of thing. I was trying to say (and obviously did a poor job at explaining ) that if it's not weird for father-son to have the same name or a similar sounding one, it shouldn't be weird for mother-daughter. I'd side-eye sisters Hannah and Anna, but not a mother-daughter.
My son really wanted to name his little sister Mary, and while we both liked it too, and it was in our top two at the hospital, we ultimately chose something else. And he has survived the disappointment. He still mentions it now and again, but he's not bitter or anything about it.
Whether your name is Hannah, Diana, or some other rhyme of Anna, I think it would be confusing. You have so many other lovely names on your list from which to choose.
