So I've mentioned in previous posts I have severe depression and after trying quite a few antidepressants my new dr went with lamictal. I've had the best month ever! But unfortunately I developed a terrible rash this week and had to stop. But today my dr called in a new prescription for depakote. Research seems similar to lamictal so hoping I get the same perks without the rash! I took first dose tonight, feeling groggy so maybe it will help with my sleep too! I sure hope this works. I Do not want to go back to the way I was before lamictal. I'm so scared of that.

I know Depakote works really well for a lot of people. FX that it goes well. Just an FYI for you. It can cause weight gain and elevated sugar levels so it's extra important to maintain a healthy diet on this medication.

Thanks for the suggestion! I've gained 5 lbs in a month with lamictal so I think I need to definitely change my diet! I took first dose of depakote last night and this morning am dragging. But I'm sure it's all the other meds I'm on right now that aren't helping with my energy level.
I'm so sorry about the rash. I know you mentioned that before. That must be very aggravating and uncomfortable. Has your doctor prescribed anything for the rash, or are you taking something OTC? I don't know if it is something that will go away just by stopping the meds. Sorry if I seem ignorant about this, it's because I definitely have no experience with the drugs you are taking, just my initial thoughts.
Also, FWIW, my mom prescribes Depakote pretty regularly at her neurology practice. Her patients seem to be doing very well on it, and do not experience side effects such as this rash. I hope you get some relief soon, hugs!!

The dr prescribed predazone steroid with an anti itch med too. So I'm on those for about 7 more days, slowly lowering the dose. Thankfully the rash is getting better! Doesn't look quite as scary as three days ago. Maybe it was a slight option to let the rash clear and trying lamictal again (the rash was not Steven Johnson syndrome that lamictal can cause), but I didn't want to go so long in between taking something, and certainly don't want to get a rash again... So I opted for the new med. Glad to hear some positive feedback on depakote! Thanks!
