A friend of mine said her pediatrician (we go to the same practice) said she will provide the measles vax at 6 months due to the outbreaks. While I am about 2 hours south of Chicago it's hitting a little too close to home for my comfort. Thoughts?
I would get the vax if the doctor said it would safe. 9 months and 12 months are not that far apart and it could save babe from a potentially horrendous disease.
I posted about this in the Venting or Randoms thread yesterday afternoon. Palatine is my home town and I live about 10 min from there now. It is way too close to home. I am terrified for my LO. We won't be taking him anywhere public in that area for awhile. I hope this gets contained quickly but they expect the infected number to rise. DS's 9 month appointment isn't until the 23rd. I'm wondering if I should call today to see if he can get the vaccine now.
microworm given your proximity to the outbreak I don't think it's a bad idea. DS is cared for by my parents so thankfully he isn't exposed to anyone else (I've been keeping him home when getting groceries, etc just because of the cold weather).
ricola0522 I guess it doesn't hurt to call. DS is at an in home daycare that is probably 30 min from Palatine. There are 6 other kids there and I confirmed yesterday that everyone in the house is vaccinated. But still, with a 90% infection rate, I don't want to mess around.

Not happy here in CA. The outbreak started here & several cases around here. & my BIL work at Disneyland. We almost went this December but got too busy. Way too scary.
Ok just spoke with a nurse. They will give it to infants 6 months and older. They would still need to get it again at 12 months and then the booster. I think I'm going to get it.
Ugh, this is why I want to punch people who ride the anti-vax bus. Poor babies, hope this doesn't spread anymore. We're in southern IN, and have already been sick a majority of the winter because the preschooler brings home all the lovely germs.
We are southwest of Chicago, and when I heard this yesterday I freaked. I also had heard that doctors are giving the vax early. I was debating calling to schedule an appt yesterday, but I think I'm going to. Although, today, both my boys woke up with fevers, so I may have to wait a little bit.
microworm, I'm scared but I'm still a ways away from Palatine. I can't imagine what you are feeling!

I was reading about this today.. If you get it before 15 mos they can do a single measles vaccine but successful immunity would still require 15 mos mmr and a booster before starting school.
It almost seems reasonable, given the state of things, to ask about it at any of our 9-month appointments. I hope I remember to do that because our appointment isn't until the 24th...

I created a reminder in my iPhone for 15 min before the appt and also for when I arrive at that address.
I'm about 45 min from Palatine and starting to freak out a little. I didn't know that they were giving out the vaccine earlier so I thank you ladies for alerting me to this! We have our 9 mo appt on the 16th so I think I will request it.
I called my pedi this morning to ask if they recommended I bring DS2 in for an early MMR. They said at this time, they are urging parents to stick with the normal vaccine schedule. They will not recommend otherwise unless the CDC changes its recommendations. I'm a little annoyed, but I didn't push it. I just hope that my kid doesn't get the measles before his 12 month appt in April. I'd be one pissed-off momma!
This is totally freaking me out! I have no choice but to send DD to daycare and even though it's not confirmed in my area yet, it's only a matter of time. I'm bringing DD in for a recheck of her ears tomorrow and I'm going to ask about it anyway. Even if they say no now at least they will know that I plan to be first in line if they change their minds. I just cannot fathom how people choose not to get any shots when I am petrified to not get them.

I'm about 40 minutes from Palatine in the southern burbs. Way too close for comfort!
