What did your 5yo, 10yo self want to be, before education, salaries, and reality mattered?
I wanted to be a meteorologist, SO BAD! I was obsessed with weather when I was younger. It varied sometimes between a TV personality, storm chaser, NOAA...just all weather. Even to this day, I love digging into the geeky side of weather patterns.
I always wanted to work with the deaf community. Actually started college with a double major in psyc and deaf ed lasted 2 1/2 years and then got the bitchiest of sign language teachers and dropped out of that major. Young and dumb in hindsight...interpreters for the deaf make bank! Also little deaf children are sooooo cute when learning to sign.

It changed so often that I can't really remember. I know I wanted to be a vet but let's be honest I suck at science so that was out. I also wanted to be a teacher at some point but I don't really like kids (except my own lol).
I wanted to be a scientist in a lab with bubbling beakers of weird colored liquids, pouring said liquids together, making cool reactions. And I wanted to be an astronaut.

1. I wanted to be a professional ballet dancer, writer and teacher when I was little (<10 yo)
2. When I was in my teens I wanted to be in the military (a combat engineer) ---- I signed up to join the reserves when I was 17, and during that last part of the whole process, the interviewer passed me a list of recreational drugs as in "have you taken even once, any of these?", and I was by no means a recreational drug user, but I had experimented once or twice the year before so I was being honest (I passed all the drug screenings) and started pointing out all the drugs (the way I remember it - -I was pointing them out like it was a Chinese take out menu - "ok, hmmm...this one, this one, this one.....).
So, that was the end of that - my application was rejected, and they said: please reapply in 5 years - but by that time I had moved on to greener pastures.
3. Then I wanted to be an architect, but ended up becoming a civil engineer (sorry, way better for me than had I went to be an architect)
4. At some point as I was finishing up my degree in Engineering, I wanted to be a yoga instructor and a wedding photographer.
5. I finally arrived at being a Mom, a Civil Engineer, and a part time wedding photographer
(I also wanted to be a lawyer when I was about 12-ish - thanks Alley McBeal, but they had a lawyer at the school career day and she was a patent lawyer and it seemed like snoooooze-ville to me)
From an early age I wanted to be an architect because my dad was. That actually lasted for quite a while. Then I changed to a chef and went to culinary school for a year and a half. I love to cook but no thanks to the stress and hours. Then I was forensic scientist, public health, ultrasound tech, nurse, and now I have finally settled on health administrator.
I always wanted to be a teacher. I absolutely love it. Not the crazy parents or pointless paperwork or the insane politics (both workplace and actual governmental politics) but in the classroom with the kids? It's the best job I could imagine.
That said, I totally might've been a lawyer. My dad was a lawyer and I grew up running through the points of cases with him. I love that kind of thinking and I've had many people over the years tell me I should be a lawyer, probably because I can form an argument about anything. I'm not sure that people always mean it as a compliment, and are probably just saying I'm a pain in the ass, but I could see myself doing that and loving it.
I wanted to be a Friendly's waitress. My mom and I did a lot of shopping when I was little, and we often wound up at the Friendly's in the Mall to get rejuvenated.
When I got older I went through the "I want to be a teacher" phase like many little girls. However as a tween I began taking notice of my Schizophrenic cousin and all of the challenges she faced, and decided I wanted to be a Therapist.
I hated that question as a kid bc I never knew what I wanted to be. When I got a little older (10?) I told people I was deciding between a spy and an axe murderer to shut them up. Boy, I was a pleasant child...
I did consider politics or law but am happy I ended up as an engineer.

I've only ever wanted to be one thing and I am that thing a musician/pianist/composer. After I saw Star Wars I specifically wanted to be a film music composer. I got a masters degree in film scoring, moved to LA, scored tons of short films, documentaries and indie features but I have yet to score a "big" film and I'm kind of focusing on a different side of my industry at the moment, but that's still my cherished dream.
Professional figure skater up till about 10. Then lawyer, archaeologist, something that would make a lot of $$$. When I was in HS I decided I wanted to work for the Milwaukee Brewers because I LOVE baseball. I had a lot of big plans that had I actually followed through with them could possibly have worked out. After I started dating DH in HS I toned down what I wanted because I didn't want to be away from him. Thank God my life is working out, because I put things aside to do what would work for us.

I wanted to be a veterinarian until I went to a animal hospital. When I was 10, my mom gave me one of her old ten key calculators and then I wanted to be an Accountant.
