#TBT GTKY - How did you tell DH/SO about this pregnancy?

As we're starting to wind down, I thought it would be fun to share our positive test stories. Did anyone do a cute reveal? Catch their DH/SO totally off guard?

I'm getting weepy and nostalgic because I know this is our last baby.

I just walked downstairs and handed him the test wordlessly, but it still feels special.

He didn't know what it was and inspected it for a moment first, then whipped his head around to look at me when he got it. I vividly remember the look on his face. So excited, but afraid to really celebrate until I confirmed that yes, really!

The morning I took the test, I gave the (washed) pee stick to DS and said "go give this to daddy." He didn't know what it was at first but then said "does this mean you are pregnant?" Honestly, at that point we were both so shocked so not much was said. We hugged and kissed.

After 3 losses in the previous 9 months, I tested and got a very faint positive. I didn't tell DH until it was a bit darker. It was very anti-climatic, I think I said, "Well, it's positive." We were both happy, but there really wasn't a celebration as we both knew it was no guarantee of a baby. I wish I could keep it fun and surprise him, but that's never really been possible with our circumstances.

He told me I was being bitchy and that maybe I was pregnant so I should buy a test. I brought it down the morning of tested and told him I was mad that he was right.

Then he made me take another test to make sure it was real.

DH and I had just decided to NTNP after having 2 losses. I wasn't charting because I was afraid of feeling too invested. I had taken a HPT every day for the previous 5 days (so much for not being invested..) and they were all negative. I saw the line and immediately started crying. It took me a little bit to compose myself and then I just walked out to the living room and showed DH and then I cried some more. He gave me the best hug and just held on to me for a long time.

It was totally anti-climactic! It was 5:30am on a Monday and we were both half-asleep. DH was on his way out of town for business and I had a dentist appointment that morning and was scheduled for X-rays so I took a pregnancy test "just in case". I had not missed my period yet, but we had been TTC. The line was super-faint so I just mumbled to DH "There's a possibility I may be pregnant" before he ran out the door.

He was out of town for most of the week while I was obsessively taking pregnancy tests (like 3/day!) trying to convince myself that this was real and I waited it out to make sure I didn't get my period. Finally, about a week later DH offered me a beer and I said "No, because I still appear to be pregnant" and he was totally surprised. I guess he assumed that the fact that I hadn't said anything else meant that it was a false positive It took both of us a long time to get excited, which is mostly because I was extremely cautious and wanted to protect myself from being devastated if I miscarried.

We got PG the first month we tried this time, so I told him I was going to go test, but we weren't expecting anything. For some reason, we thought because it took 4 months last time and we were 4 years older that there was no way it would happen so quickly. I went to the bathroom, took a test, and sat there waiting for it. I saw a super faint line and said "Um....I think I see a line." He got out of bed, looked, and said, "are you sure that's a line?!" And I replied, "Well, they say any line IS a line" so we were hesitantly excited at that point. I took another test later that day and it was like, "Whoa, that's definitely a line!"

After two losses this summer, I was trying not to get my hopes up. I POAS for like a billion days in a row, and all the test were negative. However, five days later, I was at work feeling like crap. I went out during my planning period and bought a test. It turned positive immediately.

When I got home from work that day, I put DS in his "Best Big Brother" t-shirt (which, by this point, was at least a size too small) and had him go sit on my DH's lap. He snarked that I must have forgotten to do the laundry, then realized what the shirt said. He gave both of us a huge hug and a kiss.

We lost our baby in Dec 2014 and hadn't been trying again. Finally in Aug 2015 we decided to start trying again since all we heard is that it can take a long time to conceive again.

Well, one cycle later I missed my period and took the test and got my BFP. DH's company was doing inventory that day (which is super stressful) so I had decided to wait to see how he was doing before telling him. I put the test in the medicine cabinet and went to get dressed. DH went to take a shower and saw the wrapper in the trash. He at first thought it was a tampon I guess but then realized so he went searching through the bathroom and found the test.

So I went out to make breakfast and he starts asking me about if he can cook fish for breakfast and stuff, (goading me about morning sickness), so I was just like, oh, you know, don't you.

I had gotten a BFN at 11dpo and had been cramping so he was pretty caught off guard.

I had really felt like something wasn't right though so at 13dpo when my temp was still up, I tested while he was at work and there was the smallest shadow of a line. Obviously I had to prove to myself that one was broken so I got another one out. Still the shadow. So I got out a FR and there was a definite line. So after I shit my pants, I got up, went to the mall, and bought a "due in June" tank top. When he got home I gave him the Jimmy Fallon book "Dada" that I had bought like 6 months earlier and say there in the tank top.

He apparently did not get it at all because I had to sit there while he read the whole damn thing. When he finally looked up he read my shirt and was quiet for a while before asking if I was trying to tell him something. Haha.

I don't think either of us cried but we sat together shaking for a long time.

Like shoogars my reveal was bitter sweet. We were trying and my period was only 3 days late when I tested and got a faint line. I didn't want to tell DH right away because I wanted to make it a big reveal somehow. I decided to come up with a plan and surprise him that weekend with dinner and a hotel stay in the city. Before the weekend came I started spotting and cramping. I went to the ER b/c of the intense pain and was concerned about an ectopic pregnancy. They confirmed that it wasn't ectopic but there was a small cyst causing the pain. They also broke the news that the pregnancy might not be viable bc of an abnormally shaped gestational sac and something in my uterus called a chorionic bump. They said I had a 50% chance of first-tri miscarriage, but that if I made it past that all should be well. So I went home and told DH the news. It was like "I'm pregnant... but don't get too excited because I might not be for long." It wasn't the happy moment I'd imagined. We had to manage our hopes and expectations, but everything ended up being fine and here we are at week 34!

I was convinced I was getting my period at any moment cause I was so bloated and crampy, but when I woke up at like 5am the Saturday that was my "test day" according to FF, and it still hadn't started I got my hopes up. I jumped out of bed and ran to CVS to buy a test and then woke DH up to tell him I saw a line. He was half asleep cause it was so early, so the reaction was mostly confusion mixed with excitement. Later when we were both more awake, I convinced myself it was a false positive, so back to CVS we went to get a digital and we both waited for the results together. Cue actual awake excitement when it came up positive!

We had a loss a few months before and I was on fertility meds bc we had tttc even before the mc.

I refused to test before we left town for my sisters baby shower bc I didn't want to be sad all weekend and I also didn't want to have to keep that secret to my family's face. And, I didn't expect a bfp.

We drove home from the trip and I immediately went to the bathroom to test. It was obviously positive, even though I hadn't missed my period yet. I came out and showed DH. We hugged but didn't talk about it much bc we were both very nervous about another loss so soon after my previous one.

Well I had a feeling I was pregnant about a week before a missed period. I felt similar to what I felt like when I was pregnant with DD1, though I was feeling a little queasy and things were off putting to me this time. I had a big dinner planned for Friday night and was due to get my period Saturday. I didn't want to have to lie to my friends on Friday and I thought I was being crazy testing before a missed period so I didn't and had some wine (not a lot don't worry). Saturday morning first thing I POAS and the line was dark and obviously pregnant. My husband knew that I thought I was pregnant because we had talked about how I had been feeling, so I just laid the test on the bathroom sink. We were meeting friends at the zoo that day and when he went in to brush his teeth he came out holding it saying does this mean we're having a baby with a big grin on his face.

So oddly enough I've had a dream that I took a pregnancy test and it was positive before actually testing positive for each of my pregnancies. This time all I had left was 1 expired pregnancy test, but after having that dream the night before, I figured I had to see if it was true. So took the test and saw a pretty decent line at 12dpo. Yelled down to my husband that I thought I was pregnant, and joked that maybe it was twins because the test was so clear early on and with an expired test... Ha!

I have no recollection of telling DH this time.... I knew for a couple days before I told him. I had the Wondfo tests and got a very faint positive line on like 9 dpo, way before my missed period. I think I just said, "oh by the way...." while we were watching tv on th couch one night. We had been trying and planning. We are very fortunate to have conceived quickly both times and we aren't terribly emotional people, so t wasn't anything special.

Well this baby was a huge surprise to both of us. I have PCOS and don't get my period very often. I took a test just because I did every so often to prove to myself I was good to go. I was absolutely shocked when it was positive. I was convinced it was defective or I was reading it wrong. I went out and took 2 more tests and after the 3rd test I paced the house until DH got home.

DH sat on the couch and I said I have something to tell you and he could tell by my face something was wrong. I barely got the words out and burst into tears. He was as shocked as I was and all he could say was "are you sure?!" I handed him the test and we just sat there for a while.

I wish it was a happier or cute story but I was honestly scared shitless, depressed and in complete disbelief for a while.

Once it set in that it was real and we made a plan we could not be happier. Now we keep saying we couldn't have planned it better if we planned it ourselves.

I actually took the test to find out if I was having another CP (I'd had a chemical the month before and a blighted ovum a few months before that). What in retrospect was very heavy implantation bleeding seemed like a weird period and I was hoping it wasn't a CP but wanted to know to tell my RE.
When I got a faint positive I told DH I was having another CP. My RE did two sets of betas and and they went up, but I was still bleeding a lot and 100% did not believe it was viable. I was so sure that I was really upset the betas went up because I knew that might mean ectopic or something more complicated than just a CP.
Then the RE did another set and those betas went up to and I realized I should probably start taking it more seriously.
Going into my viability ultrasound I can genuinely say I about 10% believed there would be a heartbeat. I was sincerely shocked. I texted DH at work and he just wrote back "woooooooooo!"
So, not a terribly positive story until 7 weeks in.

I took ds to my husband's practice and he was wearing a "best big bro" shirt. I didn't want his team to see the shirt so I told dh to go look at ds' shirt under his sweater. He didn't get it right away then it clicked and he was like "wait, really??" He is not the most affectionate and he gave me a giant hug in front of his team. With ds I was in California and had to share the news via FaceTime. I enjoyed telling him in person this time.

We had been trying for almost a year and had experienced a loss earlier in the year. I was still charting, but not obsessively because it had started to take a real toll emotionally. We were gearing up to start fertility meds the next month. My husband was about to go out of town for six weeks for work, so I decided to pee on a stick at 10 days past ovulation. It was so extremely faint, but at the same time, I knew that a line was a line. There wasn't some big reveal, I took the test and we both analyzed it together in the bathroom! This was at about 4 AM as I was about to drive him to the airport. We felt happy, but also very nervous because of the past year. We didn't do any big brother shirt or any cute reveal to family like we had with the previous pregnancy. We felt pretty numb to it all. The next month, I proceeded to bleed heavily with clots. I was pretty positive I was miscarrying, and even really wanted to get off of my progesterone to get it over with, but my OB kept saying we should wait because my numbers were going up. Well, I'm glad I did, because we saw that beautiful heartbeat at six weeks. We both saw in the sonogram room at that appointment, because we were positive that we would see another loss! DH had just so happened to come home for two days during his six-week trip. Here we are today at 35 weeks and I am still just as thankful and in awe as I was that first day. We are meeting our daughter in a few weeks, and now I feel all emotional after typing all of that out!

There are three or four of you that I was on the loss after living children board with, what a blessing that we are all here together today!!

I had got my IUD out at the end of August and was out of town all of September. I started charting when I got my first period in mid September. When I got home I knew I was ovulating so we thought since it was the first month and really first cycle since getting my IUD removed that it was up in the air. I started spotting on 10 dpo and tested to a BFN. The spotting continued but my period wasn't really showing up. On Tuesday at work, I almost puked on two patients. So, I went to the store at lunch and bought a FR. Low and behold a positive. I text the pic to MH. He didn't believe it. Neither did I.

We spotted till 16 weeks in. It sucked. I didn't really believe that the pregnancy was going to be viable. We had an ultrasound at 8 weeks and again at 11 and 12 due to the amount of bleeding I was having. Low and behold now, the bleeding was due to the implantation taking place at the location of all the scar tissue with DD and my complications.

Totally not romantic at all.

It certainly wasn't the big reveal I'd always hoped for. That plan I had already used last spring before my loss (I sent our dog downstairs to greet him after work wearing a "Big Sister" bandana, it was adorable).

So anyway, this time, we were on vacation. I knew I'd be testing, so I had packed a bajillion wondfos and tampons to have my bases covered. I couldn't wait to know because my cycle had been SO LONG (I didn't O until CD67), so at 10 DPO at our B&B in Hershey, PA, I POAS and it was positive. Faint, but not even a squinter faint. I went running out of the bathroom to show DH. We hugged and talked about how nervous we were that it could end in another loss. When we were out the next day we stopped at CVS and picked up an FRER. Glaringly positive! The winery tour DH had planned for the next day didn't happen, but I was so happy for the reason why. Now here we are 31 weeks later.

My OB told us he wanted 18 months between births so when DS hit 8 months in August we quit using birth control. That month I ovulated while we were traveling and staying with in laws so I knew it wasn't happening. September I used OPKs and MH went camping with my family the weekend my period was due. I decided to POAS right after he left at dawn on Friday and it was positive. I couldn't find a big brother shirt so I made one with an iron on transfer and then MH got delayed coming home Sunday and was going to get in way after DS bedtime. I put the shirt and test in a little box and wrapped it. When MH got home around 10 I gave him the box and he asked if I bought him underwear because I tease him about all his underwear being blue or grey and buy him ridiculous ones when I find them. He opened it and it took him a second but he was really excited when it clicked.

I knew I was going to test that morning, DH didn't. I never told him when I was testing all the previous months. I got ready for work then tested. Once I saw it was positive I opened the bathroom door and just told him-"DH, I'm pregnant." We hugged and kissed and talked in our bed for a little bit. Nothing overly special but still special if you know what I mean.

I took the test at about 5:30am on a Saturday, I was 13 DPO. We'd been trying for about 3 1/2 years, so I didn't think it was possible, but I saw a very faint line. I took a 2nd test to prove myself wrong & then I did a little dance in the bathroom.

I kinda not really went back to bed, DH slept in till 8 & I took a 3rd test (what else am I supposed to do with this value pack of wondfos?) He had our puppy on his lap & I told him the puppy is going to be a big sister. He didn't get it. Then I said we're pregnant and he said what, no we're not. That day we had to take my Dad to the ER and we saw some new babies getting discharged which was really sweet and DH asked me if I really was pregnant and that he was so happy.

So it was anti climatic but totally worth the wait. I would have liked to do a big reveal but it just isn't our style and even waiting 2 1/2 hours was a lot for me.

I took a test on a Friday, at 11dpo. I had stopped telling H when I was testing, because it was getting old. I obsessed by myself, but he could tell. It was glaringly negative. My luteal phases were usually short and sometimes too short, so I spent the weekend waiting for the period. When it hadn't come by Monday, and my temp had stayed up, I thought I should probably take another test.

The faintest of lines started showing up, I thought, and all plans for a big reveal went out the window. I ran into the room where H was still sleeping and dragged him out of bed into the bathroom. He thought I needed him to kill a bug, ha. Then he confirmed the line, and we stood in disbelief. He couldn't believe I didn't take another test RIGHT THEN, but I didn't have to pee anymore, and I had to go to work! After work, I took another test and dug Friday's negative out of the trash. Obviously hugely outside of the valid test window, but there were two dried lines on that test (as well as on the new test)! I don't think H truly believed it until I told him that Friday's test had actually probably been positive. Then he came in for the cutest, biggest hug.

But, really, he first was annoyed because he thought I wanted him to kill a bug.

We weren't trying. I had given up hope and come to peace with the fact that I'd never be pregnant. We actually had been talking just the weekend before about our plans to adopt again. I couldn't remember the last time I had my period. I was feeling guilty for drinking all the wine and so annoyed for not keeping better track of my periods so made H buy me some cheapies thinking it was a waste of money. I came upstairs and told him I think he bought a defective batch and showed him the stick. Luckily I found a FRER lying around which was also positive. There were a lot of expletives and disbelief. And no wine.
