I left the fridge temp at 44 last night after I cleaned it out, for about 8 hours. DH wants to pitch everything in there, I do not.
Things I think probably gotta go: Milk and yogurt? --one gallon milk open, one sealed Pre cooked, sealed, chicken breast Pre cooked, sealed, meatloaf Sandwich meat, sealed
Things I'm hoping to save: Bacon and hotdogs (sealed) Condiments Cheese Vegetables
I just went shopping LAST NIGHT. I wanna die having throw this all away!
I agree with your list. Also, it's not like these items were left at room temp, so if I were going to thoroughly re-heat the chicken and meatloaf, I would consider giving them the smell test, but I am a food safety rebel. And I don't think I'd give them to the baby.
Check the actual internal temperature of things (stick an instaprobe in them). I think the 'danger zone' is above 40. You might be in luck with some things. If your bacon smells bad, toss it.
Source: My mom was in food service for 35 years and drilled time/temp into my head.
I guess I'm a food rebel too but I would throw out all meat but keep the yogurt, milk and cheese. I leave cheese on the counter at room temp all day and still eat it.
Oops edit to add I saw you are keeping the cheese too
Especially if this milk smells fine, I'd keep it. It's probably just going to spoil sooner than the expiration date. This is expert advice from a milkman, my BIL. Yes, seriously.

I didn't realize milkmen still existed...
I miss living with my parents because the milkman came twice a week and brought the BEST chocolate milk from a local dairy! Yum. I should go pick some up.
Is this a good place to add that my least favorite household chore is cleaning the fridge?
it's the biggest pain in the ass but when you are done it's so satisfying. Probably the task I dread most on the monthly chore list.
It took almost 2 hours. Because I also organized things as I went along. I was so satisfied last night, I think it made my sadness this morning even worse!

This thread came back to haunt me today. I emptied all my groceries and realized 6 hours later that I left a carton of eggs in the trunk. Should I toss them or are they ok to cook and eat? WWYD?
