Books are just easier to browse to come up with new ideas, rather than looking up individual names.

i use an app - its just called baby names but its by winkpass. it gives you the popularity of name, the meaning and the origin. i like that i can check off those that i like and then bring up my narrowed down list

You can browse BTN as well. On the front page, click feminine or masculine and you can view all the names of that gender in the database.

bocaburger I'd go to the library and pick up a couple baby name books. Then you can cross check any names you like against Behind the Name once you make your lists.
