I haven't had a chance to look at the list yet. I must dig out a UK list for comparison and, being me, I will want to compare both lists.
I really think that names float in the air waiting for their time (or something). When my brother was born the midwife who delivered him had been practising for forty years. She had never had a Daniel in all that time, and suddenly my brother was the third in a fortnight.
I love L's name and it suits her. It's always been H's favourite name. Part of me wants to have another girl so that we can use my favourite name, but I'd also love to have a boy... only, as PP mentioned, boy names are so hard.
H and I started talking baby names before we were even married and Rowan is the only boy name we ever agreed. But now we know two baby Rowans and we're getting close to one of the families. I think we should still use Rowan since we both love it, but H thinks it'll get confusing.
veggiemo, since you love names, you should definitely join us on the Baby Names board.
#306... Was #326 in 2014... We were in a situation where we wanted to use a particular middle name... So we were looking for something we both liked, that went well with the middle name.
I've never been one of those people that's always had a name picked out for their future kids. Names are hard, MH and I don't really have the same taste either. SS has an Ojibwe name so it made picking DS' a little conflicting for me.
We were team green and didn't settle on a name for a while after he was born. I don't think we'd use our girl name for a future girl because it'd feel weird to me, so back to the drawing board for future team green pregnancies.
Same here. We had a girl name idea for my first pregnancy which ended in miscarriage. When I got pregnant again, that girl name wasn't even on our radar. Not that we decided ahead of time it wouldn't be, it's just that each time I got pregnant we had new ideas and opinions on our likes/dislikes.
veggiemo, I know you won't think I'm LTing your loss, which I'm so sorry you had to go through. But my fascination with names includes the naming process and how different it is for everyone.
I find names so fascinating. I know I need to be over on the name board like a few others of you here!
Both my boys stayed within a few spots of the previous year (DS in the 200s and LO in the 100s), which pleases me.
@hazeldublin, that kind of surprises me too. I love the name, but I never hear it!
Yeah I thought it would be way lower. Even more surprising Hazel was 63 or 64. I have met 2 other hazels in my 30 years. I feel weird it's become so popular ha ha.
You can blame John Green for that. I know a baby Hazel. I really liked that name for a girl, but H nixed it right away. Jerk.
@scoop funny you say that because I have seen exactly one thing with lo's name on it at navy pier in Chicago while I was pregnant (I bought it). I never see her name on things!
I would probably change all of my kid's names if I had a re-do. I do love all of their actual names but I think these names would suit them just as well. G would be Benjamin E would be Claudia or Victoria F would be Milo
On one hand I am kind of baffled that people didn't know their baby name was popular. On the other, who the fuck actually cares? If you like a name and you want that to be your child's name, who cares if a billion other kids are named the same. They will still be very different people AND there will definitely be a pencil with their name on it at Disney.
I used to get so pisses there were no pencils with my name on them.
H used to get so pissed he was one of 3-4 kids in class, wherever with the same name.
sammyca I loved Milo for J. H super-nixed that. He said it sounded like a pet name. And then showed me these as proof. Dream killer.
My H too. I think someone on here actually does have a pet called Milo. It's a chocolate milk powder here. H could never get over that. I still love it.
Someone on here has a dog that has the same name as me...awkward. And /relevant
I forget who at the moment, but I know there's a dog named Walter, so my kid shares the same name as someone's dog. It happens.
Also, I think this is where I share I prefer "people" names over "dog" names for dogs. I'll never name a dog fido or rover or something.
Lol! That's me. We're the same. Our pets have people names. Except for Batman the Cat.
ETA The dog with my name surprised me the first time because I have a weird name. Honestly, I kind of like it better on a dog than a person. Would it be weird to name my next dog after myself? Lol!
I'm glad we didn't go with the girl name we had picked out for most of the pregnancy. The last minute change suits her so well.
Same. We were set on a name, and i changed my mind after she was born. I was still on the operating table and heard H telling the doctors and nurses our first choice. I called him over and said I didn't want to use that name, and I'm glad we didn't. It wouldn't have suited her at all.
