E is at 135. We've only talked briefly about baby names for this next one. We still have a boys name and a girls name picked out from the last time, but nothing's been decided yet. Part of me just wants to go with the names we picked out so it saves the months of me suggesting names to H and him shooting them all down.
I'm glad C's name is in the top 200. When he's old enough to want his name on things, hopefully I won't have the same problem with him that my parents did for me. We could never find any of the fun things with my name. Hell I still have a hard time finding my name on things. But on the opposite side, I hope there aren't a ton of Coles in his class. The first person I met with my first name was my freshman year of college. It was nice to be Sabrina and not Sabrina M (first letter of maiden name.)
The idea of that is so foreign to me. But I've been in a room with four David's and nobody bats an eyelid. I'm sure if you have a common name you would be used to it.
One of the hazels I met a few years ago and me would always refer to each other by first name, in every sentence. We actually found it extremely entertaining lol
I couldn't care less about social situations. It was more the experience of being in a classroom as a student with a really common name. No one ever spelled my name correctly, because there's different variations and there was always a mix of spellings in the classroom. I was also painfully shy, and there were constantly instances where confusion about who the teacher was talking to would draw attention to me, and for someone like me that was very embarrassing. In general, I'm very sensitive and hypervigilant about that kind of stuff, especially now that I'm a teacher and am on the other side of it and see how easy it is for information to be accidentally crossed in conversation about students with the same first name.
We all make decisions about stuff based on experiences that have stuck with us from our past, this is just one for me.
I graduated high school with 6 others who shared my name in some variation.
sammyca I loved Milo for J. H super-nixed that. He said it sounded like a pet name. And then showed me these as proof. Dream killer.
My H too. I think someone on here actually does have a pet called Milo. It's a chocolate milk powder here. H could never get over that. I still love it.
Well, DD is in the top 10 for 2015. I've never met anyone else with her name yet, but I'm sure that I've just jinxed myself. DH and I chose her name because we loved it and had no idea it was so popular.
Gianna is at 96 for 2015 and my name is 888th! My name was 41 the year I was born and has gotten less and less popular every year. It seems crazy considering how many other people I know with my name and that I didn't meet a Gianna until college.
So P's middle name hasn't been in the top 1000 for boys since 2002 but is currently 478 for girls. It was in the top 100s for boys during the 60s and in the top 100 for girls from 60s through 90s. We considered using it for his first name since it was traditionally male but decided no since every one now thinks female when they hear it.
Three new babies on my Facebook in the last week! Names are: Henry Finley Eleanor
Man, Eleanor has jumped a lot since 2000 (375 up to 60). Henry has jumped too (126 up to 29). But Finley takes the cake! 986 up to 204!
Is Finley being referred to for girls names?
Finlay was our boy name!
Yes, Finley is for a girl in this case. Finlay isn't on the SS list but Finley for a boy is and in 2000 it was 890, 2015 it is 326. I like Finn for a boy, we intended on using that as a nickname for DS1 but it never stuck.
