I looked on the food allergies/intolerances board and it doesn't have any posts so maybe you ladies can provide some advice. (I will be talking with my pedi. at DS's 6 month apt but just wondering in the mean time).
My 7th month of pregnancy I became allergic to seafood (and still am). My husband was a vegetarian for 27 years due to a meat "intolerance". He was never diagnosed by a Dr. but says he remembers as a child he would throw up when he ate meat, so he just gave it up completely when he could make his own food choices. He is a complete carnivore now with no issues.
I know because of my diagnosed allergy we will have to be extremely cautious with DS and seafood and not even try until he is at least a year old, but I'm not sure about other meat. Anyone have any experience with this? I know a lot of you have been giving your LO's chicken and I'm just wondering how careful I might have to be with meat? A part of me believes early exposure to meat may be better than putting it off because his system would get use to meat; whereas if we wait to introduce until after a year it will be "new" and maybe unappealing.
I have a sneaky suspicion that my husband's meat intolerance may have developed due to the fact that he spent significant time every year in both the U.S. and Portugal growing up. Not trying to be judgmental but I know his mother thinks nothing of letting a raw pork roast sit out on the counter for 72 hours before cooking it (makes me sick even thinking about it much less eating it)!
