Hi all I hope you don't mind me posting here, I've lurked this board for awhile but never been active.
I'm 34 weeks, team green and struggling with a girl middle name.
DH and I went back and forth for ages looking at girl names and have finally tentatively settled on Ella. I'm not in LOVE with it but I like it and we agree so it wins for now. (The conversation went like this: him - how about Emma? Me - I prefer Ella. Him - i like that too, let's use it.) Where we are struggling is the middle name. I liked Ella Jane because Jane has family significance, but Ella Fitzgerald's middle name was Jane and this bothers me for some reason. Maybe Ella June? Is that cheesy since she'll likely be born in June? Our last name is long and difficult to pronounce so I like given names that are easy to spell and say.
Just in case you weren't aware, little Ellies (Ellas, Eleanors, Elodies, etc.) are everywhere these days. So just be advised that Ella is super-trendy. Mns I'd pair with Ella: Ella Corinne Ella Carys Ella Corinna Ella Catherine Ella Frances Ella Iris Ella Julia Ella Juliet Ella Johanna Ella Juniper Ella Miren Ella Marie Ella Maris Ella Miranda Ella Natalia Ella Pearl Ella Rose Ella Sabina Ella Simone Ella Violet Ella Valerie
And names that I might like if I liked Emma and Ella for their simplicity: Noelle Anna Alice Leah Cora Clara Mira Eve Mina Willa Julia Marie Rose Laura Pearl
bromios I know what you mean on the trendiness of the letter E for girl names. Just in my circle of friends' babies there's an Eleanor, Evelyn, Elise, and Eloise, all under 3. I'm trying to get over that in the name of compromise. I guess I figure that especially with having a long and difficult last name, a simple and popular first name isn't the worst thing ever.
Thanks for the suggestions, I'll take some of them to DH.
#1 - 10/10 | #2 - lost but not forgotten 10/12 | #3 - 7/13 | #4 - 5/15 Diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer 12/19/16 Finished with chemo 4/27/17! Double mastectomy summer 17 Radiation fall 17
Thanks for the suggestions so far. I like Stella a lot, but it's already used by a friend.
Funny that some have suggested Iris, and Isla. My MIL is pushing hard for Iris and jokingly calls the baby that already - I can't use it because I'm an optometrist and the eye reference is too much. Lol!
I'm liking your suggestion of Lucy a lot, is Lucy Jane too cutesy? I suppose no worse than Ella Jane. What about using a long form of Lucy like Lucinda or Lucille then using Lucy as a nn?

Lucy is less cutesy than Ella to me. I am just really tired of Ella. Sorry.

Lucy is my DD's full first name so it doesn't bother me as too cutesy, but Lucille or Lucia NN Lucy is also lovely.

Lucinda is beautiful. So much better than Lucille.

I know a little girl name Lucilia (loo-seal-ya) but nn Luci. I used to think Lucy was cutesy but after seeing it used especially as a nn, I really love it!
I think Lucy Jane is a lovely name, and Lucy isn't cutesy at all - I've never heard that suggested before! Lucia and Lucinda are also good, but not as nice as Lucy on its own, in my opinion.
I'm not keen on month names myself, but if you like them, go for it. I would find it a bit odd to meet a child born in one month and named for another. A June born in in June is what I'd expect. Lucinda June flows nicely.
Thank you everyone for your help. I think our final two picks will be either Ella June or Lucinda (nn Lucy) Jane. It will be a game day decision and that's IF it's a girl!
For the next kiddo I'm going to lobby DH to find out the sex in advance to avoid potentially unnecessary name discussions lol.
