.. will be here in about 3 weeks. Husband and I have very different taste in names. Daughter is Adele Mia (I preferred Adele, he preferred Mia). If we have a boy, Rhys Cameron is the current top runner for his name. I've had a few people comment on the spelling of Rhys though. I believe this is the correct spelling but it appears some people around me feel we should be spelling it Reece. I'd change the name before I changed the spelling and this has actually got me questioning whether or not we should go with a different name.
As for girls, my top picks would be Claire, Celia/Cecilia, Esther, Lydia or Greta. Hubby has for the longest time only suggested Chloe or Emily. I dislike Chloe and while I think Emily is pretty, it's top 5 and thanks to my name being crazy popular for my time, I'm turned off using a super popular name. He's recently suggested Chelsea, which I'm kind of on the fence about.
Opinions on Rhys and Chelsea, or other suggestions that might work for us? I have a huge long list of girls names but husband has said no to pretty much all of them so I'll actually be surprised if he goes for anything suggested but it's worth a shot..
I'm not a fan of Chelsea. From your list I love Claire. What about Claire Emily?
That's what I was really pushing for before husband offered Chelsea as a suggestion. To the point that I'd started telling people that was the top runner because he wouldn't make any suggestions. He doesn't like Claire though and I feel like a bit of a bully if I push two names on him (it took my whole pregnancy for him to come around to Adele and then I think in the end, he only agreed to it because after 24 of her being here, we couldn't come up with anything we both loved)
Rhys is the right spelling and a good name. I'm not a huge fan of Chelsea, but it's a good solid name. If you both like it, then it seems like a front runner to me.
If you want something similar to Emily but not top 5 then I suggest Emilia or Emmeline. Other suggestions: Anita Beatrice Cora Gemma Henriette/Henrietta Honora Louise/Louisa Michaela Nadia Naomi Rosalie/Rosalia

Understandable about not wanting to push your names on him. While Emily is top 5 now, there's a smaller percentage of kids with the most popular names now than when we were kids. But there are a lot across other generations as it's always been fairly popular.
Of your other names, Lydia, Celia, and Cecilia pair well with Emily. You could also push for a variation of Emily like Emilia, Amelia, or Emma.
Do you know what it is he likes about the names he likes?

Rhys is basically the only way it should be spelled. It's a fantastic name and you should 100% use it if you have a boy. Ignore anyone who tells you otherwise.
I dislike Chelsea. I have a horrific association with the name and I think it's very much dated.
I adore Celia, Esther, and Greta. Cecily was on our girl list.
Emily is boring to me, but fine. Claire and Lydia are ok, but not my favorites.
Clara is lovely and would go with with Adele I think.

I really dislike Chelsea. I agree that Emily would be nice in the MN spot. I like all of the other girl names you listed (Claire, Celia/Cecilia, Esther, Lydia, Greta). They are all beautiful. The only thing I would say is I prefer Greta as a nickname for Margaret. Does your H not care for any of them? What about Matilda, Iris, Magdalena, Freya? I do love Rhys. I understand your concern about people spelling it incorrectly, but I don't think you should change names just because of that. For alternatives I would suggest: Heath Niall Miles Noel Nolan Eamon Sean Seth Graham
He says he dislikes all my suggestions as much as I dislike Chloe (which is a lot). I'm pretty positive that of any of my names, Claire would be the only one he'd come around to.
Thanks for the boys suggestions. They're are a few there I like. I think I'll try to get a backup list going but we've both really liked Rhys for a long time.

ETA: I like your girl's list as well.
Thanks! I like a lot of those names on the list you suggested but the only one he's said is okay is Gemma but I feel like that's a little dated/don't really love it

That's very true. I know 3 Emily ' though. Not close enough to not be able to use it but it's enough for me to rule it out because of popularity. I love Emilia and Amelia but he doesn't at all - I do worry Emilia would be mixed up with Amelia. Emma is my cousins name and I've said a few times if it wasn't her name, it'd be perfect but he's even said no to that!
I'm pretty sure he just likes the sound of the names he's put out there. I also think he says no and puts up a wall to my suggestions because they are less common and he worries that people will judge because they're 'weird'.

I like Rhys Cameron and I'd spell it that way. It's not like you're trying to be unique, that is a correct spelling. He would have to correct people often but IMO it's not a big deal.
For girls, I love Claire. Celia is nice, I don't care for Cecelia. I personally don't care for Esther, Lydia, or Greta. I also don't care for Chloe and think Emily is too popular (and this coming from someone who generally doesn't mind popular names). I don't like Chelsea at all.
Other suggestions: Charlotte Madeline Margo Alice Caroline Katherine Margaret Victoria Eleanor Louise Frances

Just tell people that Rhys is the correct Welsh spelling. Maybe they will learn something new!! Don't ever let someone tell you it "should" be Reese. No, Reese is the anglacized spelling of another culture's name.
Rhys is correct and Chelsea is awful. Suggestions: Bianca Beatrix Clara Cora Carys Claudia Eve Eva Eloise Eleri Frances Freya Flora Holly Hannah Iona Isla Iris Irina Julia Johanna June Juniper Kendra Kira Keely Lyra Laura Livia Lucy Lucia Mira Miren Maris Mara Mina Noelle Petra Rose Rhea Sabela Sabina Selah Thea Valerie Violet Willa Zoe

I pretty much all these names are on my list or we know someone with the name and can't use it. The ones we can use, he doesn't like.

Have suggest most of these at one point or another as there are only a few here I'm not a fan of but he's said no to every single one of them. He's suggested Holly and Zoe but we have one of each in the family. He just seems to really not be open to anything a little different, if you don't hear it on every second kid, he says he doesn't like it and I think it's more that he knows how critical people are and doesn't want to be told other people (who's opininions matter to him for who knows what reason) don't like the name. We had this same problem with naming our daughter. I'm frustrated because he won't even discuss my names and he's frustrated because I keep saying no, we know one of those or it's in too popular.
Chelsea is dated, and I really don't like it. He seems to like girl names ending in the long e sound.
Calliope Daphne Elodie Holly Penelope Rosalie Sophie Sylvie
Or possibly a name that could have a nn with that sound, such as Evangeline nn Evie.
I like Rosalie but he's said no to that. He likes Holly but it's my cousins name. I bet he'd like Sophie but to me, it's a bit cutesy and also quite popular where we are.
I do really like Evie as a nn, there's no way he'd go for Evangeline though.

Would he go for Eve or Eva? Or Evelyn is rather popular. I'm really not a fan of it, especially on a girl, but maybe it could work for you.

I don't mind Eve or Eva, I'm pretty sure I've suggested them both before. Will try again though. I don't hate Evelyn but I'm not really all that keen on 'lyn/lynne'. Plus I can pretty much guarantee he'd say it's an old lady name.

Rhys Cameron is a fine name. I'd do Cameron as a first name, but that's simply because Rhys is one of those names I like enough but not as a first name.
I can't stand Chelsea. Of the other options, I like Lydia and Cecelia best.
I'd add Gretchen to the list of possible suggestions. I prefer it to Greta, which has always felt like a nickname to me.
Also suggesting Delia, Portia, Clarice, and Laura.

I'm not a fan of Gretchen and he HATES Greta so there's no way he'd go for Gretchen either. I've suggested Delia and Laura but nope.
You keep mentioning that you know people or have people in the family with various names that you each like. Maybe this is an area where you could compromise. It might be easier to find a name that you both like but have another in the family instead of having a name that one of you doesn't like and feels forced into.
Re: the names you listed Rhys is great. I'm not a fan of Chelsea, it feels dated. And Emily is a nice enough name though a little unexciting for me. It sounds like he doesn't like any of your names, so those might have to be off the table, unless you could push Claire. I love Emilia and wouldn't worry if it got mixed up.
You should also force him to give you 3 more suggestions. See if any of those are better.
I'm just going to list some not unusual but not currently crazily popular names: Sarah Catherine Eliza Jane Nicola Mallory Marie Carol Natalie Marisa Melanie Susan Leah Helena Samantha Megan
I like your list, but you're right- if he doesn't like the name it is pretty much off the table. You've gotten some good suggestions here, but I'll add Mila. It's popular enough without being *too* popular (although it has risen quite a bit in the last few years and may continue to do so).
I don't care for Chelsea. I like Rhys and definitely think you should use it for a boy since you have both loved it for so long.

Mila is definitely too popular where I am unfortunately. I think it's a very pretty name but I'm in a due in June IVF group with only 26 members and so far, two sets of twins have been born. Each twin set has a Mila!
I suggest you ask your H to identify 10 names he likes and report back to us. Insist that he gives a full 10 names. Maybe you could give him a long list of names to look at if he needs help getting to 10.

Have tried the long long long list for him. I've not specified a number on how many I'd like him to suggest but I do really like this idea. Going to give it a go. Thanks
