Always say couch, understand sofa but would not use it myself. Use loveseat to mean the type of thing budders posted. Would not understand settee or whatever the other one mentioned I can't remember now.
ETA davenport and chesterfield. I would not have a clue what those were unless the context made it obvious.

I would most likely use couch, but sofa wouldn't seem odd to me. However, a sofa can also be used to describe a couch with a pull-out bed. Most people in this area reserve the word sofa for that type of couch.
Sofa or Couch. Loveseat is a two-seater. A Settee is smaller like this:
I'd call that a bench. It's not squashy enough to be a settee.
Interesting that you call a two seater settee a loveseat. In the UK that's only used for the weird piece of furniture I linked to, the purpose of which is to enable intimate conversation without the risk of the couple's lower bodies coming into contact. I think they were horrendously shocking in Victorian times.
Although I usually say settee, I would always say sofa bed, not settee bed.
We have a futon in the nursery at present, but I don't think we'll keep it when we move. It's comfortable as a bed but not all that comfortable as a settee, so I think we'll get something better for sitting on.
