Library and an unplanned trip to the park. When we got to the library I as a 1/2 hour early so I looked for a park. I'm hitting my max tolerance for the heat so we'll be headed back to the library soon.

Preschool this morning for DD--nice day so lots of outside time which is always good for her. DS is acting a little weird so I just read to him and let him watch Paw Patrol this morning. This afternoon, we are having a new baby-sitter and since I haven't met her before, the kids will just play outside with her while I am home. I am moving tons of toys outside in hopes that they stay outside so I can clean up.
My ankle is so big I can't get my shoe on...I probably should have gone to the doctor...

forevermorgan, I quit soda 2 years ago and no visible effects despite the fact that I was drinking a lot of it...I am hoping that at least there are internal effects. It doesn't matter what I do, I always have the same body. I haven't tried serious running but jogging and cardio classes only help my endurance and I do not lose weight and walking/hiking seems to do nothing. I think it's genetic. I'm about 10 lbs overweight and my mom has always been exactly there too. She finally lost some weight when she started eating only dressing-less salads, grilled chicken, fruits, Fiber One, and pretty much nothing else and started walking 5 miles every day...that's pretty much impossible for me to do when my husband is a meat and potatoes type and my kids are insanely picky...

I'm what is probably an "apple" body type... I found doing the DASH diet in combination with light run/walking (I run/walk on a 1:2 ratio and have competed in a handful of 5Ks the last 3 years) helped me shed about 15 pounds in 6 months back in 2014-15, and that was without much dietary adjustment.
I'm 3 months postpartum and just getting back into run/walking 3x a week, plus walking 1-2 miles on off days, in addition to pilates 1x and strength training 2x a week.

icequeen yummy! A good steak sounds pretty good right now
brachysira hopefully you can get your ankle looked at and it's nothing serious!
We bought flowers today and got them all planted in our planters and that's been about it. My husband is off and is content with just sitting here but I'm getting bored. I think DD1 and I might go walk down to the pond and see if the ducks are there.

I had g.d. too...and once it was not diagnosed and my baby ended up not well, but he's mostly okay now. Everyone I know who drinks soda has been diagnosed with it. Even skinny and young people. I felt like I had to quit because although I am not obese and should not have obesity-related problems, I think I am susceptible and I think soda is a cause for many.

I just hosted my first Thirty One party and got enough money in hostess credits to get the tote I wanted to use as a diaper bag for DD2 and a bag for DD1 at no cost to me, so that's great!

penguin129 random question, do you still do your weekly activities? Any that have stood out for you? I'm going to make a list of supplies and go get stuff to keep on hand in the house when we are stuck inside.

I plan them every week. This week is the last week we're doing until next school year. I stopped posting them because it was a lot to post in two places. I'm thinking about asking the mom who created the group if I can just add those of you who want to follow us to it. It is a private secret group on Facebook.

This week is a camping theme. Were doing measuring, counting, building, and creating letters and shapes with marshmallows and toothpicks. You can make a campfire with paper towel and toilet paper tubes and tissue paper, draw a jar and make fingerprint lightning bugs, explore sink and float with items found on a scavenger hunt, make a hand print campfire, set up a tent inside or outside for dramatic play, and other stuff.

Oh no that's fine, it seemed like a lot of work! If she doesn't mind, I will join I'm still debating what to do as far as schooling with DD1 but I enjoy doing different activities with her.
penguin129, I'd love to join, too! forevermorgan, brachysira, mrsmuq, do y'all think you are compensating in other ways? I know it's hard enough to skip certain foods or even severely cut down other food groups like carbs, but it may lead you to over eat other things that you feel are your "safe" foods. For example, what if you started to eliminate sweets but decided to try fruit instead? The fruit isn't quite as filling so you might eat a larger amount to equal the piece of cake that you skipped, or indulge in something else the following day. If you actually did exceed your calorie limit and ended up with no deficit, these extra carbs, whether from fruit or cake, would be converted into fat if your triglyceride stores are already full. Sorry for the metabolism lecture. I think it's most important to watch your portions and not deprive yourself of the things you want. Especially if you are exercising. Exercising increases your metabolic rate so you will feel hungrier and need to fuel your body accordingly. The best way is through simple carbs like fruit or an energy drink before working out and protein after. I could go on but ill spare y'all the novel!
icequeen - I know I'm sensitive to sugars and can easily over eat fruit so I've cut back on fruits a lot. I also track everything in MyFitnessPal so that I'm aware of my carb and protein ratios and try to keep them well adjusted. I'm still a work in progress, as most of us are, but I've made huge changes that I'm adjusting to and I'm pretty proud of myself just for that. I never say no to dietary advice, though. I can always use the extra help.
I think you are doing a great job and should absolutely give yourself credit. You know your body best. I just find it hard not to chime in bc I went to school for this

I don't keep track so it's possible I consume more. But not in ways that are obvious to me. I suspect I wasn't consuming soda calories far above what I needed, so now I just eat breakfast instead of drinking a soda, which must be healthier but is probably more calories. I don't look overweight and I've been a stable weight for a decade, but I just don't really seem to lose no matter what. But I still like being fit and I still like not being a total soda addict.
forevermorgan, im not too familiar w myfitnesspal. When you enter in what you eat, do you list your servings or does the app assume you had one serving? Do you drink alcohol? I agree with doing a Dash diet (it is voted the most successful many years in a row) like pp said. Yh may be right though. If it's been a month and you see no changes in the scale or how your clothes fit, then it's time to reevaluate.
forevermorgan it sounds like a great app. I know many people have trouble w recognizing what a serving is so they end up overeating without knowing it.
The dash diet is mainly aimed at reducing salt in your diet to stop elevated BP. It definitely works to shed pounds as well. It comes to mind mostly bc it emphasizes fruits and vegetables and smaller servings of lean meats and dairy, and cuts out salty foods like chips, fries, sauces etc. I did my fellowship at the institute that developed and clinically researched this diet so I can attest to it's pros and cons.

I know how to eat healthier, but I can be kind of lazy about it. I also eat when I'm bored. I find keeping up with an exercise regimen (plus I'm EBFing right now) is easier than trying to follow a strict diet (so I tend to just eat when hungry, usually every 3-4 hours). I do get in about 4 servings of veggies a day, and 3-4 fruit without thinking about it, and I eat vegetarian 2-3x a week. But I know I eat too much dairy and snack food. I'm a picky eater and have sensory issues with a lot of foods (I like how onions, mushrooms, spinach taste, but cannot stand the texture, for example).
I'm also battling PPD/PPA again, so I have a tendency to "eat my feelings" when I'm stressed.
