Hi everyone. Baby bgkc4 was born yesterday (5/24) evening at 8:34pm (birthday twins with baby bighair12 That was after I spent 24 hours at the hospital. In Monday Randoms I spoke of how poorly I was feeling, well turns out, I was in labor. She is a whopping 8lbs., 3oz (at 37w 4d)! Nothing went as planned and I'm exhausted, but a proud and happy momma nonetheless. She's in the NICU but should not be for long. I'll update with birth story and pics when I'm feeling better.
UPDATE with Birth Story (sorry it's a long one):
On Monday 5/23, I felt awful from the time I woke up at 5am. I went to work but I had skin and muscle aches all over, from head to toe. It felt like I was coming down with the flu or some sort of infection. I called the doctor at 6pm, and the OB on call told me to go to the hospital. I ate dinner, showered and left for the hospital. When I arrived around 8:30pm, they made me wear a mask in case I had contracted something contagious, and they moved another patient to give me a solo room in pregnancy triage (basically quarantining me from other patients in the PETU). They ran lab work but said everything looked fine. They said this might just be my body's way of telling me I'm in labor. They said my baby's heartbeat was slightly elevated so they might have to induce if Im not in labor. Then, the baby's heartbeat got stable so they were going to let me go home. But by that point I started having painful and frequent contractions and I told them I didn't want to go home feeling like that (I live 40 minutes away). They checked my cervix and I was only dilated 3cm. So they took a wait and see approach. Within the hour, the baby's baby's heart rate was once again unstable. They decided to admit me and induce labor at 5am Tuesday 5/24 (after I spent the night in triage with contractions). They gave me pitocin. I continued to have regular contractions all morning. DH, my mom and MIL were all in the room with me. Around 10am I asked for an epidural. They said the anesthesiologist would be coming soon. And hour later at 11am I felt a huge contraction followed by a heavy flow of fluid that seemed to never end. My water had broken. Once that happened the contractions were hurricane strength. I was in a lot of pain and kept paging the nurse asking for the epidural. Finally around noon the anesthesiologist arrived and I got the epidural (2 hours after I asked for it, but better late than never). From that point on all seemed right with the world and I felt good. At 5pm the doctor checked me and I was 10cm dilated and ready to push! I was excited and thought the end was near. But then they took my temperature and discovered I was running a high fever over 102degrees. They said I likely had some sort of infection, possibly a uterine infection. They said I could still deliver vaginally but we needed to proceed immediately and get the baby out and get us both started on antibiotics. I pushed with all my might from 5:30-7:30pm unsuccessfully. After two hours they told me I needed to get a cesarean for my health and the baby's health, so we went to the OR and I got the c-section. DH was there with me in the OR whispering words of encouragement and praising me for my strength throughout the day and the previous night. She was born at 8lbs 3oz, 18.9". She was sent to the NICU so that they could treat her for possible infection. She also had a poor pulse/oxygen rate from ingesting fluid so they needed to regulate her breathing and give her oxygen. We both spent the rest of the week at the hospital (her in the NICU) and finally left Saturday.
