I am sharing my feeding experience in hopes it will benefit someone. I wish someone had suggested it to me when DS was younger. This is a long post.
My son is eight months old and we breastfed for a short time. I had hoped to make it to a year and at 12 weeks we stopped abruptly as he flat out refused - loudest cry I've ever heard. I always thought there was something more to him not being interested (most ppl suggested this). He always seemed eager to latch and as I would place him to the breast he would squeal in what I now know is pain.
Fast forward to seven months old and I noticed he was regressing developmentally and if I touched his neck he winced in pain. I asked our peds practice about it and they thought it was normal. I decided to take him to a chiropractor that specialized in infants. Turns out he has tightness in his neck and spine. This is the reason he did not want to feed. It was such a relief to know.
Always trust your intuition and if something seems off, seek other avenues.
whenever you are nursing and all of a sudden have loud crying esp with a nursing strike baby should be evaluated for injury/pain. one time it was the only sign we had of a severe ear infection, he would't lay down to nurse, and stopped eating. We had just been to the dr 3 days before for a check up, so I figured they'd think I was nuts but demanded he be seen. Listen to your mommy instincts. mommy instincts exist even if you aren't breastfeeding though
