I saw May had this and thought it would be a good thread and that it would be helpful. Post your postpartum recovery thoughts/comments/questions/vents etc here!
I keep thinking my bleeding is slowing down, then she marathon nurses and the bleeding picks back up. I took an extra huge pack of pads when I left the hospital and have already almost gone through them.
Other than that, I'm healing much quicker than I did with DS. I am in more pain because of breastfeeding, but my pain from giving birth is less. I refuse to take my Tylenol #3 because I cannot handle the constipation-it is TERRIBLE, so I am trying to get by with just Motrin.
I didn't have any postpartum emotions/hormone issues with DS, but I have pretty much cried every day since she's been born, sometimes about lack of sleep, sometimes tears of joy, sometimes about something random and unrelated, and sometimes about nothing at all. Geez!! Poor DH.
txmommy14 I'm glad that the physical recovery is going well, but sorry about the emotional recovery being tough. Lean on those around you for support and don't forget to talk to your doctor if you ever feel like you need to. Huge hugs!
Is anyone else having sore muscles in their chest? Maybe from breastfeeding?
Yes! I get cramps when nursing ( because it helps your uterus shrink to normal size) but also have a lot of general abdominal and back muscle soreness.
woodengirl07, I definitely have some tenderness from breastfeeding, but also had some weird sensations for a few days after delivering that I think were my other organs going back into place. The first time I stood up afterward, I swear I could feel my lungs drop. Also pay attention to your positioning while you're bfing and/or pumping. If I don't have solid support, I'm definitely sore after.

I'm super sore in my chest and upper back I think from hunching forward, so I have been doing lots of stretching in between feedings. I also got a My Brest Friend pillow which I thinks provides more support then the boppy.

I think my bleeding is finally letting up after 2 weeks but I still get random soreness in my hips and back (similar to the pain I had during labor).
I forgot how much a letdown can hurt when nursing, it's even worse when DS triggers it with his tantrums and DD just finished nursing 10 minutes prior.
How are those nursing remembering which side was last?? I've tried a bracelet that I switch and using a hair clip to switch and keep forgetting to switch it. So instead I'm constantly feeling myself up trying to remember.
Let's talk about PP bleeding. How far PP are you and how is your bleeding? Each time I think that it is slowing down or minimal, I have this huge gush with some clots, usually after a long nursing session. I am borderline on calling the OB about this, I'll probably wait and see what it's like on Monday. It's hard to know what is normal,

I'm 12 days PP. The bleeding has definitely slowed but I'm still having heavy bouts occasionally, usually after nursing or activity. My understanding is that bleeding for up to 6 weeks is considered normal, but most people slow down after 2-3 weeks.
Um, as long as we're discussing lochia, I'm totally grossed out by how foul it smells! I was even tested for infection and it was negative... I guess this is normal? Yuck! It makes me feel so gross.

txmommy14 I'm at 3 weeks pp today and I'm still bleeding a bit, mostly just blood, but the occasional clot too. It's ten times lighter, but still there. My dr said basically that bleeding would last 4-6 weeks pp.
I'm at 2 weeks 2 days and as soon as I think I am done with bleeding- I get a gush. With the c-section they apparently cleaned me out really well, but she told me to expect bleeding for a little while.
I'm obviously not in this position again yet, but I bled PP with DS for 8 weeks. My OB wasn't concerned that I was still bleeding at my 6 week PP appointment, but did send me for an ultrasound at 8 weeks to make sure there was no retained placenta (there wasn't). He told me that some people just bleed a lot more than others and up to 6 weeks is considered normal.
I'm 10 days pp (I think-my maths don't work when I'm tired) and my bleeding is almost gone. I switched to lighter pads but still have the big guns ready to go in case it comes back. I'm pretty lucky because I was the same with DS1 and had a relatively easy recovery with both.
Good to know. Mine has been very minimal today, but every once in a while I'll get this huge gush that almost freaks me out. I'm sure it's normal since I'm only 8 days out.
This didn't happen with my First section...but did any of you ever get trapped gas? Oh my god, it was so bad!! I went from being able to manage moving around to barely being able to stand up because of the pressure and pain!
Also kind of Embarrassing to be literally crying in pain and just being told I need to fart.
I feel awful, I don't remember....has anyone had a c section here yet?
There were some complications with mine, but nothing major - and it it was emergency and my second, but I'm in so much more pain this time around (not even including my aforementioned gas incident)....I wasn't expecting that. I'm feeling pretty defeated that I need to depend on so much help.

I'm so sorry!! I didn't have a csection, but I got they trapped gas when I had an appendectomy last year and it was terrible and soooo painful. I hope it improves soon.
@cattucino I had an unplanned/emergency C-section. The trapped gas is crazy. The nurses asked me 2-3 times a day if I was passing gas and I can see why they were so concerned. It def hurts if it's not coming out. I was in a lot of pain the first 3-4 days after but it eventually dropped off to a manageable pain.

Thanks for the suggestions ladies!!
I'm 2 weeks 3 days PP and my bleeding is slowly tapering off. The less active I am the less I tend the bleed now. I am down to passing maybe 1 small clot every few days, but I'm not overly worried because like others have said it can last up to 6 weeks. I'm just rather annoyed by it and am uncomfortable because it just sucks. I can't wait for it to stop, I'm hoping the mini pill stops it all together again when I go on it.
So, I had an epidural that worked pretty well. Except one of my thighs is numb. I've also noticed that the same thigh is slightly weaker than the other. It actually gave out on me the first day, but that hasn't happened since. Still, I'm nervous with the LO on the stairs because of it. I mentioned it to the nurses the first two days and they said it was the epidural, and not to worry as it would fade. But the numbness and weakness is pretty much the same four days later. I'm going to mention it at my home well visit on Friday, but I'm curious if anyone else had a similar experience.
vivela, I would definitely mention it to your doc just to be sure and to see if there is anything you can do about it. I didn't have lingering numbness after my epi with DS1 but I did have headaches for a few days after, and minor soreness at the epidural site for a few months after he was born.
vivela, yes definitely mention it at your visit. I don't have any lingering numbness, and my legs were completely numb from my epidural until about 10 hours later, but my hospital called me yesterday (4 days pp) to ask specifically if I had any lingering numbness. I'm also experiencing head aches, hope those go away soon.
