Birth story! I know most of you have probably moved beyond these by now, but I love reading them and wanted to share. I was 41 weeks and 6 days and totally done with being pregnant. My MW had stripped membranes at my 40 week appointment, which seemed like it really did nothing other than cause a bloody show. At my appointment the next Wednesday, my MW stripped my membranes again, and we scheduled my induction for 4pm that Friday when I would be 42 weeks.
Nothing happened that night. Woke up the next morning to more nothing. Around 3pm I started having contractions that were extremely irregular. At 5:30 the contractions started to become regular 5:1:1. I was told to wait an hour to make sure they were real, but by 6 they had gotten to 3:1:1. I was going to wait until 6:30, but they were getting more intense and instead of waiting for the callback from the on call doc, DH and I jumped in the car and headed to the hospital.
We got there a little before 7, bypassed triage, and were in our room by 7:30. Found out I was dilated to 8cm. They had me lie on my side during the check in process, which was unpleasant. Finally they were done, and I was able to get in the shower. My MW arrived and talked me through some rough contractions, and I moved onto the yoga ball. Went through transition there, and quickly felt the need to push. MW checked me and I was at 9.75cm. She told me if she broke my water I'd push on my next contraction. Of course I said yes, and she was right.
7 minutes later, at 8:25pm, Felix Theodore was born. He weighed 9lbs 7oz and was 21.5" long. We're getting into our groove, and our toddler is an enthusiastic big brother. One other note, for my first birth I was induced at 42 weeks with no pain meds. This was so much better...not that I'm going to have another kid, but if I were, I'd wait again to go into labor on my own. Thanks for reading my novel and all the advice and support!
