I just realized that I have 2 weeks of vacation (in addition to the 2 I have scheduled) that I need to take before my maternity leave starts. Not a bad problem to have. haha.
Ooooooh requiressnacks. Me too! What are you thinking? For one of them I might do a "nesting" week in October where I just get lots of stuff done. We have family visiting this week and Sunday was so crappy outside that I did a lot of cleaning/sorting/organizing throwing away and was thinking that would be a good idea before baby comes. The other one I'd love a real vacation but not sure how I'll be feeling/$$$.

I think a "nesting" week is a great idea! I will probably plan to do something like that in October as well.
My mom lives on the CT shoreline in a town that I love so I was thinking of taking some time off around Labor Day and going to spend it with her. I'm thinking by September I'll enjoy being around water and going swimming daily. MH has no time off, so whatever I do will have to be solo. And it will be free!
so lucky to have too many vacation days! I don't have too many left but with trips very unlikely I may just take a day off every month.
legalbeagle, I looked on Parenting this morning and they are starting a decluttering challenge, I thought I might jump in on that. requiressnacks, I've been looking at joining the YMCA by my house to use their pool on the weekends. My back has been killing me lately.

littlelion, I get 4 weeks vacation, but we cancelled our winter vaca due to Zika. Normally I wouldn't have this many stockpiled halfway through the year.
Today is my first day of summer vacation. Sort of a joke since I have a week of trainings next week, but I slept until 730 which was amazing. The plan is to do the typical teacher 1st week off business: phone calls, clean, vet appointment, dentist appointment, 1st tri bloodwork(might push that off until tomorrow).

Have a great catch-up week @cahistoryteacher!
requiressnacks, agreed! Come out and play everyone! I need friends.
littlelion, thanks for the heads up on the decluttering challenge. I definitely need that. Our apartment is actually pretty neat (thank you to our nanny) but sometimes when you just let things sit your eye just rolls right over them and past them. For example, this weekend I finally threw away three plants that have been dead FOR WEEKS. I mean, what is this, Grey Gardens?

Speaking of decluttering....I still haven't taken my winter clothes out of my closet. So I just keep fishing through a Tupperware tote to find summer shirts that fit, while my sweaters are still accessible. I hate switching out my closets.
If I were more organized, I could probably get everything down to 1 closet, but I have no idea how people do that.
I also have a full dresser in my spare room with clothes that I literally never wear. I think the decluttering gods would tell me to get rid of it all, right?

My bedroom closet is a disaster, no rhyme or reason. My wedding dress is in there! As if it needs to be reachable in case of an emergency.

requiressnacks, get rid of it all! My mantra is "If you're not using it then it is just like you've thrown it away but it is still taking up room in your house."

Happy Monday friends! I'm here! DD is having me set up an Easter egg hunt inside the house since it's already almost 90 before noon. I put goldfish inside them and keep sneaking hers... Lol.

I had a major come to Jesus with my closet this weekend. You guys, it was so satisfying. I just literally went through everything and tried it on. If it fits me but not right now in blump mode, I put it into a bin that shall not be opened until spring 2017 at the earliest. I figure my 1st/2nd tri clothes can double as postpartum clothes If it is bump-accommodating or bump-hiding or can work with a belly band, it stayed in the closet. I also made a pile of clothes to donate and threw away a couple things that were in not great shape. Now my closet feels so empty but I know I won't pull out something that doesn't fit anymore or makes me feel fat when I have 10 minutes to get dressed.
ETA: And yes! If you never wear it, get rid of it. If it's a nice brand or in great shape, you can try to consign it and get some $$. Or you can just donate everything (and get a tax receipt!). I read somewhere that if you haven't worn something in 6 months it's time for it to go. Since you have seasons up there I'd change that to a year. But yes, get rid of that stuff! Maybe try it on first and make sure you don't actually like it.

You guys are so inspiring!
So, another organizing question....this is just a hypothetical.LOL I have 2 giant drawers of bathing suits. Yes, just bathing suits...maybe like 20. Some I like to wear when I'm in Mexico, some are for actual swimming and some are more, er....aspirational.
Anywho - they are taking up a lot of room. I probably only "need" 4 of them. So I just toss the rest?
@cahistoryteacher, can I just say I am super jealous your summer vacation has started already? Finals start for us on Wednesday, and while school technically goes through Tuesday next week I'm leaving on Friday morning to head to a big convention and won't be back until the 18th. I told H I'm not going to do anything but sleep for the first few days I am back.
emilie, I did that with my closet last summer. It felt so good to get rid of everything. Between H and I we filled up 6 large trash bags of clothing to donate. Of course I need to start going through it again and pulling out everything that isn't fitting now.

Dude, what? 20? LOL. How does one acquire 20 bathing suits? I don't even want to know how many pairs of shoes you have
Bathing suits (at least for me) are such a body image thing. I would try them on and if you're happy with how you look in them (or if they fit recently and you were happy with them), keep them (but if they wont fit until post-partum, maybe put them away for now).
I don't know how I feel about aspirational clothes. How aspirational are we talking here? I just put some clothes that used to fit in my 20s in a pile to donate yesterday. I had been hanging on to some of those forever, because I used to love them, but my body has changed since age 25. It's not just about weight but also about hips and boobs being bigger and different, etc. I don't think that's gonna get better by having a kid. My skinny jeans that fit me in the fall pre-fertility treatments? Those can be postpartum aspirational for me. The dress that I wore to a wedding 10 years ago? Not so much.

I think you are completely right about aspirational clothes. Sometimes I hang on to things that don't fit because I just love them or because I got a great deal on them. I think it's time to get real and just aspire to fit into my pre-pregnancy jeans after I have these babies.
I have this one sequin top from The Limited that is so beautiful. It's lilac, one shoulder - perfect for a night at da club. (which I go to da club maybe once per year. LOL) I bought it 6 years ago and I've never worn it. Time to purge!!!

Yaaaas so much this on emilie's take on aspirational clothes. I think another good way to think about it is "am I holding onto it because I might be able to fit into it/will wear it AND it is still in style?" I just gave a bunch of dresses to a friend that are still in good condition and I might be able to fit into post-partum, but I probably won't wear again because I've worn them to a bunch of weddings/special occasions in the past and my style has changed.
requiressnacks, purge and make room for baby clothes/maternity wear!
emilie, I think more people will be more active the further along we get. It seems like it always takes awhile for people to come out of their shells and post regularly.
For me, I'm always mobile and I don't love Tapatalk, so I don't post as regularly as I could, but I read everything.
I took my DS, who is slightly disappointed at having another sister to Target this weekend and he picked out our very first baby girl outfits. He still says he wishes it were a boy, but I think he's getting over it.
In other news, Wednesday is the kids last day of school. This is the first summer they aren't doing summer school. I may die.
We're going camping this weekend and I'm so excited to get away for the weekend, but it's also supposed to be the first weekend with temps over 90 degrees. That I'm not excited about.
With regard to the decluttering, two things I like:
1. The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up: If you can get past some of the silly stuff in the book. the general concept is great, but you MUST follow the order/rules. So for clothes, you literally put all clothing you own in the same place, and go through each item one by one to decide if it brings you joy. If it doesn't, you toss or donate. Even if it's something you've never worn, still has tags, etc. You give it up so that it might go and help someone else. I know it sounds crazy, but it helped me get rid of so much, and I look forward to doing it again. Also, if you're like me, when you actually pile up ALL of your clothing from every room, dresser, closet, etc. you feel like a complete jerk for having SO MUCH stuff, and it's a lot easier to let go when you see how fortunate you are and think about how many others are doing without.
2. Thred-Up: For those items that are in good condition and fit the brand requirements, Thred Up sends you a bag for free and you ship them all of your stuff. If they decided to keep it, you get money back. If they don't, they'll either send it back to you or donate it. For someone lazy like me, this is ideal. I've made some good money, and instead of getting cash back, I opt for credit (you get more money I think?). They take lots of different things in all different sizes (including plus size and maternity). Because of my store credit, I was able to get a jump-start on maternity clothes, most of which were new with tags.
