I keep waking up with my hands feeling asleep/numb. Am I having problems with my circulation? Does this happen to anyone else? It happens even if I've been sleeping on my left side.
Yep! This happens to me all the time. I have really low blood pressure even when not pregnant so I'm used to flipping around a lot. I try not to sleep with my arm directly under my shoulder and that helps

I have a really stupid question I've been saving until today: kidney stone vs. childbirth?
I have never given birth, but I HAVE had a kidney stone. The "labor" lasted for nine hours before they gave me morphine. It was the most painful thing I've ever experienced, and I didn't get a baby at the end; I just got a little stone the size of the period at the end of this sentence. Although I don't really remember the pain now (it's been a few years), I remember thinking at the time that if childbirth was any worse, I wouldn't be able to do it.
Has anyone experienced both? Any comparison? Or are they just completely different?

This happens to me but only if I'm sleeping on top of my hands.
Now I am stressing about my hair in the hospital! I have thin hair that must be washed and dried daily or it is a hot mess. I am going to be a sight for sore eyes, I guess....
And regarding back sleeping, my doctor said this is actually an outdated "rule" and that your body will tell you if you need to move positions. She said it will get harder to lie like that when further along, but to listen to my body.
My stupid question: I am planning to BF but obviously have no clue how successful I/we will be. So do I buy formula to have on hand just in case?

I have not experienced both but I will say the pain of childbirth/labor is not like other types of "something is wrong" pain. And the reward at the end whether you endure the pain med free or with an epidural or whatever is so worth it. I'm curious if anyone has experienced both and can weigh in.

I never did. For one, it's expensive and I didn't know if I would actually need it. Another, I thought it would tempt me to have it so accessible. I delivered in a "baby friendly" hospital, which meant I wasn't given any formula or samples, they never even mentioned the word to me. I was afraid having it at home would tempt me in a moment of weakness, and I was very adamant about making nursing work. However, I am sure the hospital can give you samples if you ask, and unless you live far from any close stores, you could always just send DH out for some.
Just my personal experience - others might feel a lot better having some on hand just in case!

jerseyakl Close to 40 weeks we got 2 large formula sample cans in the mail, and a couple of months in, we got some single sized formula samples for diaper bags. I think it was because Motherhood Maternity had my address. I would wait to see if you get something like that before spending your own money on emergency formula.
Also, if you are going to formula feed, buy something at Motherhood Maternity and give them your contact info. They send lots of formula coupons. I think Target does too if you have a baby registry with them?
I had sharp RLP in the beginning of my pregnancy. Now every once in awhile if I get up to fast I feel as though someone stabbed me around where you get cramps which I am assuming is still RLP. Anyone else still have RLP?
Mine went away for a while but have come back recently. It's the same pain right inside my hip bones. It hurts a lot. It's if I get up too fast too.
Ok, I'm just going to jump in. I've wondered this for a little while now but it really does seem so trivial. My hair is super curly and I only fully wet/wash it every 2-3 days since it gets stupid tangled waiting longer than that. My hair also gets kind of matted looking after sleeping and needs fluffing along with spritzing with water. My longest layers go past collarbone length now but while curly it shrinks up so much that I can't easily put it into a bun without some work. I had seen some curlies that I follow on social media do things like braids for the hospital which got me wondering
So my question is if I'll really need a plan for my hair for my hospital stay?
I have super curly hair too. My plan is to continue with my normal routine (which is wash and blow dry most days), then braid it when I am actually in the hospital. I'm going to bring my styling products and blow dryer with me so I can do it at some point. Otherwise it will be one tangled mess. Plus you know, vanity makes me want to look good in some of the pictures
I'm at 28+4 or 28+1 depending on dating scan or LMP, and in the last two days, the baby has really slowed down and gotten quiet in there. I think I'm going to put a call in on Monday, but in the meantime how worried should I be?? I was really freaking myself out last night. No sporting, cramping, or leaking...
@****- hope you and the girls are doing well. i think you mentioned before you have to lay flat... how do they have you laying down? on your back, side, or switching it up?

My dr said if this happens to me going forward, during the times the baby typically moves for you to count ten kicks in a two hour block. So 3 jabs in a row = 3 kicks.
I do have days too where LO isn't as active. Then the next day is super active.
What happens if you don't get ten in 2 hours? I honestly don't know if I have ever felt that many yet!

have you done the whole orange juice or sugary food then laying down? or ice cold water?
i would only worry if you dont feel the baby at all, but it is totally normal for the baby to be sleeping and not moving around for periods of time. dont freak yourself out, but call the dr for reassurance on monday.

I didn't do the oj or sugary food, but I did go lie down and got some subtle movement, which is what stopped me from busting into the ER in tears last night! Only half kidding..

She said if I didn't get the 10 then to call and they'd have me come in.
Well I guess I will definitely put in a call to the dr. We haven't really discussed kick counts yet, she just asks if I feel movement at every appointment. I feel him moving/kicking throughout the day, but am not sure that I have ever felt up to 10 in a 2 hour period yet. So I will check in with her about everything.

I am! I didn't really experience RLP (as far as I know) until I actually started getting a bump - around 20-22 weeks. I imagine it's because that's when I started growing? Not sure. I experience RLP every once in a while now.
lolacachia I am also 28+1 and movement has slowed/changed. As long as I keep feeling movement throughout the day, I am not concerned. Others have said that movement changes as baby gets bigger. It switches from rolling to kicking/punching. I also have an anterior placenta so that limits what I can feel but I share your concern. I would mention it but not run to the ER.
Thanks for the advice regarding formula. I guess I am just in hyper-prepared mode where I feel like I want and need every possible thing in order to avoid a crisis of any sort. Thinking that if I cannot BF, I will starve my baby but you are right, there are stores and I do have some samples.

I'm glad to hear this, I don't know what made me so paranoid yesterday. I guess I just sat down and realized I hadn't felt the baby for quite a few hours and then I was freaked out until I felt the slightest movement.
Do you guys randomly feel dizzy sometimes? Should I be concerned?
I do, I actually brought it up with my doctor at my appt a couple weeks ago. She asked if I noticed a pattern to when it would happen, which I haven't. I mentioned that it didn't seem blood sugar related since I'd sometimes feel that way shortly after eating. She said that it can be normal due to increased blood flow, and to drink plenty of water. Also, she mentioned that depending on how I'm sitting, for example if I'm reclining slightly and relaxed on a couch, I/the baby may be inadvertently putting pressure on that major artery in my back. The same one that is the reason they recommend not laying flat on your back.
I think it can't hurt to go ahead and bring it up with your doctor, especially if you're at all concerned. I just wanted to share my own experience and my doctor's thoughts.
This isn't really a question but I feel like my bump isn't growing anymore...Anyone else feel like that? Maybe I'm just immune to the size now?!
I feel like this sometimes, but I seem to go through growth spurts. It's usually every 3 weeks or so where I look the same for that amount of time, then wake up one day and think "what the hell happened overnight?" It happened at 20 weeks and again at 23 1/2 and now I'm feeling the same as I did around 24 weeks (I'm 26 now), so I'm expecting another big growth spurt soon.
That's also why I like taking pics on the same day every week - it lets me see progress since I see myself every day.
I also agree that it depends on LO's position, as my bump changes throughout the day based on what he is doing.

As someone who planned to ebf but had to switch to emergency eff because my baby was losing weight, you do not need an emergency stash. If your pedi tells you to supplement they will give you samples right away, and you can stop by the store for formula and bottles on the way home.
I don't have curly hair (and I'm a SS for hair anyway), but I don't get the hair plan discussion. After a vaginal birth you can shower within a few hours, and who cares what your hair looks like in the hospital anyway? Slap on a headband or braids or whatever.
How dangerous is the flu for us pregnant people? I never get the flu so I passed up the shot but DD woke up with it this morning. The close proximity is making me nervous
Much more dangerous than it is for non pregnant women. Pregnancy kicks the immune system into overdrive when it encounters the flu. It will fight the flu to the point of putting the woman and baby in danger. That's why it's so important to get the flu shot when pregnant. I would call your doctor and let them know you are caring for a child with the flu. They may have some precautions for you.
The nursery post got me thinking...which do you prefer, baby clothes hanging in a closet or folded in a drawer? I was planning on using a dresser but I saw so many of you had hangers.

My little guy has some less active days and I usually will very lightly push on my stomach on all sides and he will give me a good kick and start moving from that. Also when I lay on my left side he tends to move quite a bit.

Um...pictures and not everyone ends up having a vaginal birth. I wasn't able to shower until the next day because I still had a catheter in. Also, not everyone washes and styles their hair daily.
Do people expect to look nice in hospital pictures? I didn't shower at all in the hospital. I really didn't care.

the only thing I can suggest is make sure it is out of your face. I have bangs, and in the beginning of labor they were bothering me, so I had to pin them back. When I started pushing, I was sweating so freakin' hard that I could just push the hair and it would stay back. Seriously, by the time he came out, I looked like I had just gotten out of a pool or shower (ew).
