Did anyone else's feet/legs swell like crazy after they gave birth? I didn't really have much swelling while pregnant but for days after leaving the hospital, my feet and legs were huge. If so, I'm wondering if there is anything I can do to avoid that again. The nurses told me at the time the reason, but I can't remember - maybe something to do with the IV - and I suppose that's why this is a stupid question.
Yup, definitely happened to me. It's because of all the fluids from the IVs and the extra fluids your body was carrying for LO. Totally normal. That's why you sweat like a mad woman PP - your body/kidneys are trying to regulate everything.

I never had this happen, and I had IV fluids the whole time with my second because they thought my amniotic fluid looked low. Did you have an epidural?
When I am lying down and I turn to my left side, I feel the baby kicking/punching against the bed so then I turn to the right side and I feel the same thing. Does the baby move/fall down to whichever side I'm leaning to?
This! Starting around 2 am the past couple of nights. It's like the bed is a trampoline and he must be stretching out because he sometimes punches my opposite side while he's bouncing. When I roll over, he flip flops and starts over.
My stupid question would have to be how do you know if your baby has hiccups or if they're just moving? or is that something you'll just know when it happens
I was wondering the same thing and then it happened this AM and I knew right away! He was actually moving like normal and then in like 5 second intervals there was jolt. It went on for more than 10 minutes and I could even feel it when I was walking around. Pretty intense hiccups for such a little person. haha

I did have an epidural and I would like to not this time around if baby isn't sunny side up. Maybe that will help. I guess otherwise I'll just plan on it happening again and be pleasantly surprised if it doesn't.
The nursery post got me thinking...which do you prefer, baby clothes hanging in a closet or folded in a drawer? I was planning on using a dresser but I saw so many of you had hangers.
I hung the clothes we've received so far and have one of those plastic sets of three drawers full of sleepers and PJs. I doubt I'll keep up with the hanging because I'm lazy but for now I like looking at all his little clothes.
For my stupid question: I feel the most movement on my right directly below my bra. When my MW measured my uterus last week it was not that high so how am I feeling movement all the way up there?

I'm getting that feeling where things are lodged under my ribs already too. I'm just assuming it's organs getting smushed up as the uterus expands and not actually baby yet. Maybe you are feeling the kicks kind of vibrate through those. That's my completely unfounded non-medical guess.

I don't know, but sometimes I swear it feels like DD just kicked me in the anus. haha. that's impossible! The nerves she does kick must be connected to where you feel it further along.
Ice cold fresh pineapple was my biggest craving my entire pregnancy with my son. No contractions were had. Actually, the only time I actually had contractions was when I hadn't even eaten pineapple for like 3 days.
I never heard of this! I've been downing the pineapple like it's my job...no contractions.

So, reading the L&D thread. What exactly does everyone mean when they say I pushed for x amount of time? If pushing is similar to a bowel movement I just can't imagine continuous pushing, so does it mean intermittent for that amount of time?

It's intermittent. I wasn't really watching the clock at that point but this is how I remember it...You make push for x amount of seconds, take a small break until the next contraction starts and then push again.

You push during your contractions. I was able to get 2-3 pushes per contraction with mine. So, contraction starts, push, breathe, push, breathe, push, contraction ends, breathe more, and repeat.
There are exceptions, but that's typically how it works. Not continuous pushing.
