It's a yeast infection, so fungal. Baby can get it in the mouth (white spots) or diaper area (red rash with red bumps) and mom can get it in the breasts (pain while feeding or after, itching, red or pink nipples, shiny or cracked nipples, etc.). There's more here: kellymom.com/bf/concerns/child/thrush-resources/
Commonly it's described as pain going out of your nipples when you first latch on that feels like glass no matter what the latch is like. it does get better once the milk is flowig well, but nips tend to be extra pink, shiny, flakey, itchy. baby may or may not show signs of white in mouth. If you've had antibiotics or very damaged nips it is likely, since antibiotics kill off the beneficial bacteria that keep the thrush in check, and damaged nips gives lots of cracks and crannies filled with sweet breastmilk that thrush loves to grow in.

I don't have any pain while nursing and haven't noticed any white stuff in baby's mouth, but there is a little rash around both my nipples. Is it possible that it's thrush?
ETA: They've always been suuuuper itchy lately. I'm usually so in the motion of things that I haven't really paid attention and noticed the rash so who knows how long it's been there....

Rash can be reaction to lanolin or other products. That can make them itchy. Or could be thrush I can't tell from here
