I'm not an expert but is it possible that he could be going through a growth spurt? From what I hear, cluster feeding is typical during the first 6 weeks because there are so many growth spurts.
Team growth spurt and from what I remember in my sleep- deprived haze, the 6w growth spurt was a real bitch. Good news - they normally sleep a little better after each spurt.
+1
Watch baby as much as you can. Is gain good? Enough wet diapers? My LO nirsed closer to every 1.5 hours (start to start) during early weeks, and she did a 3 hr cluster at night. Now is the time to bi he watch Netflix or develop a GBCB addiction. Things got easier after 6w and downright breezy after 12w.
Sounds pretty normal. Ditto PP- lots of wet diapers and gaining weight? Then it's probably fine. My lo's eat every 2 hours when they're awake during the day and every 30min-1 hour during the evenings at that age. Now they eat every 2 hours and every 1-1.5 hours during the late afternoon/evenings from 3:30-6:30 or so. Eta: but now they sleep until about 4 am.
Yeah most likely "just" another growth spurt. there is one at 1 week, 3 weeks, and 6 weeks commonly, but some babies do one every other week for the first 6 weeks and others seem to just be in one long growth spurt that lasts for 6 weeks straight!
One thing you can try is to be sure you are not switching sides too soon in the nursing session. make sure baby is unlatching on their own from side 1 and that it's a pretty good length feeding, if it's a low amt of minutes, burp and reoffer side 1 to make sure they got all the hindmilk. so like a 5 minute feeding, burp and reoffer same side with compressions and massage to get a bit more hindmilk, then burp and offer second side as dessert. If nursing session is longer just burp and offer side 2. Sometimes they pull off sooner on side one due to a stuck burp rather than being done with that side, and soemtimes we switch them from one side to the other when we think they are done, rather than when they really are done.
getting a bit more hindmilk in can sometimes help to stretch out feeds so they aren't one on top of another as much so you don't go crazy.
