Also emotional about it. I normally stay pretty quiet on my mom's group on FB but I couldn't today when people were blaming the parents. Such a tragedy, and to thank the family isn't getting anything but sympathy makes me sick. We also have a Disney trip coming up, so of course my mom calls...

I can't think about it too long or the tears start rolling. I cannot fathom the utter terror and horror that family experienced, on top of the grief of losing their sweet boy. J got a whole lot of extra snuggles today.

It makes me sick. I spiraled on it a bit today. The beach is made to look like a beach. The kid was wading, not swimming. The signage was questionable. What hurts the most is I would have allowed my almost 2 year old to do the exact same thing and I wouldn't have thought twice.

Exactly. "No swimming" is different than "Beware alligators", which is what should have been there. No one would dare let their kids near any water warning of alligators. The parents weren't doing anything wrong or being irresponsible. The father was close enough to the boy to be able to try to free him. What happened was tragic and could have easily been prevented with proper signage.
My dad said this morning that Disney doesn't put wildlife warnings signage around because it would hurt their business. I don't know how true that is, but I sense a law suit.
This story is heartbreaking. DH usually doesn't care about stories in the news but he keeps getting choked up every time it comes on the news. I don't blame the parents at all. They obviously wouldn't have let him near the water if they knew there was a remote possibility of alligators in the water.

I'm sure this will be settled quietly out of court. Disney must have known there were alligators in that water. It was completely irresponsible of them not to warn people. Not to mention they were holding an event right by the water after sundown when the alligators are most actively looking for food.
I can't handle it! We have a 2 year old...I just cannot imagine. I probably would have allowed our 2 year old to play in the water too, just not sure about it being 9 something at night. Unless the area was lit up, I don't know....I have issues with water at night time anyway. I agree that the signs should have warnings, it wouldn't surprise me if they didn't use them due to the possibility of hurting their business.
Disney is supposed to be the happiest place on Earth and now it's ruined for them. I get emotional seeing Disney commercials because they make me happy knowing we can share that with our kids someday, seeing Disney ANYTHING is going to tear them apart for the rest of their lives
