DD1 would only fall asleep in our arms if we were walking at a fast pace when she was about 5 months old. So we ended up speed-walking around our living room, which was not that big, looking like idiots. Then we would lay her down and no matter how long we waited she would instantly wake up. Rinse and repeat for 2+ hours.
My BIL/SIL are crazier, though. Their DD1 would only sleep well in the stroller. So when she woke up at like 1am, one of them would get up and go on a 3 hour walk with her. In the MOTN. From 1-4am. I would really like to say I would never do that, but I know better than to say never when it comes to parenting

3 HOURS!?!? That's dedication!
Or insanity brought about by sleep deprivation, take your pick Their logic was it was the only way she got a solid chunk of sleep in the night.
If she is fussy and not falling asleep, sometimes I will plop her into her carseat because that's where she naps at daycare. Sometimes it works and she falls asleep - sometimes not!
DD does not take real naps during the day - she's a cat-napper - ten minutes here, twenty minutes there. She will only take a long nap if we are driving in the car or if DH is wearing her on a hike.

Same. If I'm really having a hard time, I run an errand with her. She almost always falls asleep in the car and stays that way for awhile.

I'm basically just lazy. If I stick a boob in her mouth she'll fall right back to sleep in the middle of the night. Which means I can go back to sleep. So...that's where we are at. When she is 6 months I'll see where we are at and maybe try to work harder on getting her to fall asleep on her own. I do recall breaking DS of this habit being quite difficult.

Now that mil is gone, H is really pushing getting K into her own room. K is asleep in my arms now. I'm about to try a crib nap. Every attempt prior to this has ended quickly. Here goes...
I'm so sorry. I know how frustrating this is. I find I have better success (still not 100%) if I try to transition her in as close to the conditions she is in in my arms. For example, if she is asleep on her belly on me with her head on my shoulder, I try to transition her so she is on her tummy in the crib. I also bend down as close to the mattress as I can to eliminate that "falling" feeling when there is a lot of space between me and the crib. I'll also put a stuffed animal in her arms if she is sleeping in my lap on her side so she has something to hold on to. Also, white noise! Not sure if any of that will help you, but it might be worth a shot!

In order to keep it somewhat peaceful in the evenings, we've resorted to holding him from basically 6:30pm-whenever his last bottle is between 9:30-10. If we put him down in his bed or rock n play during that time he will wake up and we will pay for it. He ends up in that wants to sleep/can't sleep/crying mode and he doesn't come out of it for hours.
Some nights he ends up in that mode anyways and we just take turns with him.
Then after that last bottle though he usually goes right out and I can lay him down in his rocker and he will stay asleep. Until about 1 am where he starts his wake-ups and he needs his pacifier or the rock n play turned on/turned off/he's cold/he's hot. He's needy.
