Just wanted your input on the above - what's your fave/go-to style/brand? What to avoid? How many of each should a new mom have? Pads - reusable vs disposable and should we have some packed in our hospital go bags?! Thanks in advance!!
If you're planning to try nursing for a while, I found reusable nursing pads to be great and definitely cost effective. I just grabbed a couple 8 packs of the Nuk brand I think. I did enough laundry that some were always clean. Never used nursing bras or tanks, so I'm no help there.

Ooh, good thread. I currently only have one nursing bra, so I definitely need more. I have a fairly small chest (I know that's about to change though), and I'd definitely prefer the ones that are more like sports bras than nicer bras. Oh, and cheap. Recommendations?

Everyone I know IRL who I talk to about this uses the Bravado Bliss nursing bra. We are all wildly different shapes and sizes and it works for all of us. The lactation boutique at my hospital sold them, so I brought tanks to the hospital and then bought the bras once my milk came in. Perfect. These don't have underwire, but have been supportive enough for my more endowed friends. Worth a look, at least.
I like the Glamourmom Basic tank top from the Glamourmom outlet, but that's because I'm so petite that other easier-to-find tanks didn't cut it.
I always start in disposable pads because reusables don't work when I'm leaking a ton early on. Medela make the BEST. They are far thinner than anyone else and extremely absorbent. For night time many of my friends also sleep on towels. I never needed to do that thanks to the Medela pads, but YMMV.
After I stop leaking so much I use bamboo reusable pads. I just got a 12 pack cheap off amazon and they are great as long as they never touch fabric softener.
I would not buy nursing bras until your milk comes in. Pack tanks. See if your hospital sells bras on site.

I preferred disposable nursing pads, specifically Johnson & Johnson. This was 5 years ago, though, so take that into account! Some of the disposable ones are folded in half so when you unfold them to use them, you can see the seam through your shirt. The J&J ones weren't folded and they were cheaper than most, so they were my go-to. I've got 2 boxes in my closet ready to go. I used them a lot!
Last time, I got nursing bras from Mother.hood Maternity. I have since discovered Nordstrom carries them in store and will probably get them there since I usually go there and trust them for a good fit. I used them for a year and a half while nursing, so don't mind the higher cost.
I also got the sleeping cotton bras and wore those exclusively for the first few weeks. I had to sleep in a bra with nursing pads bc I leaked alllll the time. So I had at least 3 of those. I didn't start wearing any underwire nursing bras for awhile, so my nordstrom trip won't be for at least a few weeks after baby comes.
I didn't have any specific nursing tanks but am following this thread for recs bc I definitely want to this time. It would be nice to not have to expose my entire stomach while nursing!

My SIL gave me one nursing bra that's like a real bra you'd wear to work. Then I just bought a nursing cami at Walmart for $15 that seems pretty nice.
But I wanted sports bra style ones too for sleeping, so I just ordered these on Amazon yesterday: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0166EK66G/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 If the link does work, search amazon for "French terry nursing bra". They have 900 good reviews and no clips, you just pull the V-neck to the side. I can't wait to get them and try them on, as the reviews sound great! And 2 for $35 is a great price.
A girl online was selling the disposable pads so I bought a 100 pack off her to start for $5.
Tanks: I cycled through 4. 2 white and 2 black. I loved these. I could throw on a cardigan and was ready to go out the door. I'll probably replace the white ones as they're kinda dingy. I got mine at target. Pads: Lanisoh all the way. Medela were decent for me. Did not like nuk but would buy them if they were on clearance. I stashed a handful in my hospital bag ands was glad i did. We were in the hospital an extra day due to jaundice and my milk came in before we were home. Bras: I love cake. They're like the most comfortable sports bras in the world. I also love the cosabella nursing bra. It's actually pretty amd comfortable, but reallyyyy expensive for something that is going to be coveted in bodily fluids. I got one on clearance but wouldn't pay the full price.
Now I'm having flashbacks of stuffing burp cloths into my bra when feeding DS and no nursing pad could hold the leakage on the opposite side. Glamorous.

I used the cheap Bravado nursing bra's and tanks from Target, but the girls on my other BMB swear by Soma nursing bras. Make sure you get a hands free pumping bra if you are planning on pumping it makes life so much easier.
I only needed nursing pads for like 2 weeks, but I bought a giant box. I'd recommend buying a smaller box before committing I don't think everyone needs them.

I really like the nursing tanks and sleep nursing bras from Target. I had disposable pads but I never leaked which I think is due to low supply. I want to get a Bravado bra this time though
Remember to add nursing tanks and bras to your registry if you haven't used the completion coupon and you can submit the receipts for a lot of this to your FSA/HSA.

Like ivehearditbothways, I prefered Johnson and Johnson pads. They were thick as opposed to many of the brands that were really thick. I used them the entire time I nursed. I bought one box for now as I am unsure if I am going to nurse this time around.
I had tanks from Motherhood and kohls - they were very similar.
I bought one bra early on and then waited until about 4-5 weeks after delivery to buy a few that fit well once my size asjusted. I ordered a ton from amazon to try and return. So many come in only small sizes or didn't have underwire, so I really had to go through a lot to find some that would work and try a few sizes.
I would pack tanks, pads, and nipple cream for the hospital. Mine were in a lot of pain by the second day.
I used Cake's Cupcake nursing pads and also had a set of Bamboobies.
I liked Cake's nursing bra, but NOT Bamboobies's Braaamazing (or whatever it was called).
I actually didn't use any nursing tanks or shirts and felt okay just using baggier shirts or shirts with low necklines that I could either pull up or pull down for nursing.
Thank you for all of your input and replies, ladies!! I've put a few in my Amazon shopping cart for when I'm ready to order them. I may order a mix of soft cup and underwire b/c personally now, I cannot imagine wearing a soft cup but my feelings about that may change once I start nursing lol! Thanks again, ladies!!
