It started Tuesdayday morning. I woke up to spotting and thought "it's either my mucus plug or today is the day." I didn't have any more bleeding and figured my body was getting ready. Later that morning, I started spotting more. I spotted all day and I figured I was "prepping" and had no pain. I kept my 11am Ob appt. My dr checked me, I was 3 Cm, 80% effaced and -2. He said its a great start, and go to L&D when contractions are 4-5 min apart. He also said he didn't expect to see me for my next appt. Well that night, around midnight, I got cramps and I tried to sleep. I also had much more bleeding, and pain, among other stuff. I called my mom to be ready. They were getting stronger and a bit more painful.
Around 7am I was in pain, I wasn't timing the contractions. Silly me, I assumed labor was going to be similar to my sons. I was dead wrong. We headed to L&D 30 min away.
They checked me and no change at all. The monitored me and baby had some decels/cord compression. I went for an u/s. I had low fluid but I wasn't in true labor. They sent me home with instructions, a follow up u/s for the next day, in pain, and worried about the low fluid.
I labored hard all day at home with irregular contractions 12-14 min apart- all day! No change at all. I was miserable. Not how I planned. I was exhausted from no sleep the night before.
I took a bath, tried to walk, drank water, changed positions, nothing helped to get the contractions regular. At one pointed, I even called up a family friend who is a doula for help. She didn't answer. I was desperate, contractions were killer but not regular enough to admitted with pain meds.
Finally 18 hous later, at 5:45 pm, out of no where, from irregular and far apart, my contractions were 2-3 min apart, regular, stronger, and longer. It took me about 20 min to put shoes on, wash my face and brush my teeth. I was in so much pain.
By the time we got in the car, I told DH he needs to hurry. I NEEDED relief, get me the epidural! He put the hazards on and we made it to the hospital in 20min, getting every single red light.
We raced into the hospital like a scene from a movie. We got there a little after 7pm. I didn't even register. They checked me and I was at 5cm. All I could think about was the epidural, get me relief . I begged and pleaded anyone i saw in srubs for meds. They started the iv and put me in a room. They checked me and I was an 8. Dh ran to get the bags and get the ticket for the vallet. While he was gone, I went to a 10 and needed to push. No time for the epidural. My mom called dh and he came running. I stared pushing and the nurse had to stop me, the dr wasn't in yet. Dh came in and I pushed, and I broke my water. The dr came in a few min later. I pushed for 40 min. She came out at 8:39pm.
I still can't believe how fast she came. I'm so glad we left home when we did. I was at the hospital 30 min and went from a 5 to pushing.
I'm proud I did it without meds, being "forced" to do it was the only way I could have done it without the epidural.
On a bittersweet note, the same dr that discharged us when I had ds, is the same Dr that helped care for my gramy when she passed, and is also the same dr who helped bring Emma into the world. Emma was also delivered in the same hospital and same floor that my grammy was in when she passed away.
