I've applied for a position at work that it basically lateral - the only reason there is an increase in pay is because there is an increase in travel. How do I "sell" myself during the interview? It's a lot of the same clerical type work I'm doing now, just more focused on specifics (it deals with medicaid patients specifically instead of a broad range of insurance carriers), and sadly, a few of my main reasons for applying are the need for change from my currently stationary job and a desperate need to get out from under my current boss. Any advice?
I would think about projects you have worked on in the past that use similar skills to what you would need in the new position. Think about the qualities they are looking for and things you have done that demonstrate that you have the qualities they need.
Thanks ladies... mostly the job requires a lot of clerical paper work related duties - which I already do all day every day. The main challenge is that in my current job (reception) we don't do projects that I can brag on. We do the same thing, every day, with every patient. I guess my best bet would be to talk up my organization, multitasking, and customer service? Meh. Too bad I can't just say "hire me because I need new management" lol!
Can you talk about how passionate you are working directly with that particular clientele? I would think if you could come up with a couple of reasons or examples of how well you serve that community, that would set you apart.
