I have a hard time with this. If it's really hot we usually stay home, go to the library next door, or take a bus to the mall.
We got invited to a pool this afternoon but we have library at the same time. I love to go for a swim to beat the heat but I'm pretty sure my littles are not built for it (I think they'd burn.)
valie - does the pool where you got invited have a kiddie pool? Or is it just a regular, big-ass pool?
I was so hot yesterday that my hair got completely drenched with sweat ... after walking for about .0001 mile. And curse the prime day thread on parenting - I forgot it was prime day. But now I have a gel memory foam mattress and a pink cheetah print britax car seat! lol!
Hmm... it's supposed to be 40C here today. For all you in 'merica that is really effing hot.
How do you like to beat the heat with the littles?
That's 104 F for anyone wondering... Ouch! As awesome as pools are I don't find them particularly wonderful with littles. I set up our baby pool in the shade yesterday (96F) and gave them scoops and buckets. They ran between the water and our sandbox. I sat in the shade trying not to melt. We also did the library in the morning. Sometimes we turn on the sprinkler or do the children's museum, but given I live in a deep freeze half the year I do try to enjoy the heat. I just use to enjoy it more when I didn't have to chase kids too.

It's a regular big-ass pool with no shade. It's also a little more complicated because the only place DS can touch is the stairs and the majority of the pool I can't touch. I really should get him a lifejacket and then I could see me taking the both of them in another day.
I am so glad I insisted on a place with AC. Poor kids in residence must be melting. My sister got a place without AC and I gave her a hard time about it - guess who bought a window unit Saturday? I hope she's got it installed...
I just remembered that at 6mos it's "okay" to put sunscreen on babies. I'm still very pro limiting sun exposure, but I'm sure DD will appreciate a little more time kicking around outside (when it's less hot).

I live in Arizona. Sunscreen has been a part of DD's life since about 4 months. I keep her in the shade as much as possible and use rash guards with uv protection etc but her skin is so fair that some baby safe SPF is imperative where I live. You just can't avoid the sun and I figure a little sunscreen a couple of months early is better than a sunburn.
Before we had an inground pool, I would buy the cheap plastic kiddie pool at Walmart for DS. Or the little inflatable splash pads you hook up to the hose and put in the grass. Those are super fun!
We've done pool time twice now with a 2 yo and 6 month old. Not much fun for Momma, but the kids liked it.
If we are outside here in TX, we usually put a fan towards G so he doesn't get too hot and make sure we have him under shade. I'm worried about the beach trip this weekend, but my SIL is bringing a canopy to put out instead of just the beach umbrellas that you can rent, so hoping that helps.
Anyone have recommendations for any sort of clipping fan or something small like that we can carry with us? I think I've seen some for strollers but still trying to find something.

It's been crazy hot here too these pat weeks. We have a kiddie pool and DD enjoys it for a limited time. I too have not yet used sunscreen but I'm at the point where I have to otherwise we'll never get out of the house! Zero complains though! I hate winter!
It was in the 90s here. Nothing compared to what some of you deal with. It is kicking my butt though. Keeping L out of the sun is frigging difficult for me being out all day every day. I am so ready for sunscreen time. Fortunately we have lots of fans for the horses so whenever we are in the barn I plop her in front of a fan. Also my office is miraculously cold all the time so that's a good respite. The stroller fan seems like pure genius.
