We are debating on getting DD a Kindle for her birthday. I'm pro, DH is con(ish). My DH thinks he wants to avoid screen time, but I wouldn't allow her to have it anymore than when she is already watching TV, which I consider screen time. What say S13?

Nope. Not buying my girls tablets until they are old enough to use them to read. That being said, once in a while we will let them play on DH's iPad. We also use the iPad just about every day to FaceTime with the grandparents. I don't have a problem with them watching TV, but I'd rather them also use TV time to run around and play with the eight billion toys they own. I think too much tablet time takes away from creative playtime, and I'd rather them have the creative play.

DD has an iPad, sort of. It was my mom's but she got a new one so she gave it to DD. We let her use it strictly for plane rides, long car rides, or when we have a babysitter.

We have the kindle with the kid proof cover that came with 1 yr of the "kid shit" aka a whole other screen with kids books to download (takes 10 seconds) and apps from kids show and apps to play shows (like from pbs). The kid side has no internet so it's nice to not worry about her getting into things.

We read 5-10 books a night on it and I let her play the apps while I put sister to bed (pet Doctor, yo Gabba Gabba or super why usually). I also download books before camping so I have them to read instead of lugging her other books.

DS1 uses my iPad for Dr appts, trips and when he's sick and can't run around.

DD does not have one and we are not planning on buying one for her, although I do see how they can be useful. I really try to limit screen time so an Ipad would not help with that. When we go to the library she occasionally likes to use the one they have there to play peekaboo, read, or use the coloring apps so she's had exposure to one.

DD has kind of taken over mine. She doesn't have unlimited access to it but she uses it more than it sounds like the other S13 kids do. I actually love it. She has learned a lot from it. Most of her apps are educational and she can watch her cartoons without taking over the tv.

I've been pleasantly surprised with how good she does when I put it away for the night or ask her to turn it off. She doesn't fight and knows the rules. So, with limits and moderation, I definitely don't think it's a bad thing.

Same here! DS kind of just took over our IPad he mostly plays games(wheels on the bus, mickeys math world or some of the others on there) however it is a lifesaver at night or some other times when he wants to watch Dinosaurs for the 50billionth time or the same episode of bubble guppies over and over it keeps the tv free so we can watch what we want. He normally does ok and doesn't fight when it's time to get ready for bed and turn it off for the night.

I voted SS because DD took over H's. She uses it when she gets home from daycare while we cook dinner. H relies on it more than I do and since he is in charge of her currently ( we are doing man on man coverage - I have the 8week old) I don't really complain. She has started playing more games on it which I like since it's making her think instead of just watching videos. She does ok when having to give it up, if H let her have it before bed time that is when sometimes she has a small melt down about giving it up.
