fishbulb I feel ya on that DD has learned so much at daycare in the past yer I never would have been able to teach her all that!
+1!!
+ 2
I am always so amazed at what he's learning! I have no early childhood education background and am so grateful for his teachers that do. They are also so sweet and have way more patience than I ever thought possible!
Yes, 25th. Not ready either; trying to scramble this week getting the house/kids ready before I go back, but just want to spend all the time with the kids. Can't believe it's been 12 weeks already, wish we got longer. And to boot, I used to work reduced hours (32hrs/wk, negotiated after baby#1); a few months before leave they told me I needed to work more hours when I return. My old schedule was put in place when I had a female boss, who has since left. I work in a field dominated by men, and it makes me so frustrated that they're being inflexible. So not looking forward to going back.
On the subject of daycare... For the first year and a half of A's life we had him in an in-home setting with DH's cousin. I loved having him with family and knowing that he was well loved and she thought of him almost as her own (but way less exhausted since he went home at night- lol!) She went back to work mid-April and until Cam was born A stayed with FIL, who recently retired. Since I've been on mat leave/ DH and I have been off this summer, he's been home with us. When school starts he'll be starting "preschool" in a 2's and 3's room at DH's school. I am ridiculously excited for this and absolutely can not wait to see how much his knowledge explodes! Even though DH and I are both teachers and trained in the field, there's no way we can do everything at home that his teachers will do for him at school. As much as writing that check every month is going to hurt, I know it's giving both boys such an amazing experience that we can't provide at home.
Well I technically already returned to work- last day of school, but now have the summer off. So I will return the Tuesday after Labor Day. H will then have 6 weeks off with DD ... If he doesn't get a new job. Some opportunities have come up so we'll see. I'm excited to go back!

I go back the 25th also. We're still working on figuring out daycare, but my mom is coming up this weekend to watch them for the first week to help with the transition. More for me than them, I think haha.
appleoatmeal, that's awful! Are they adjusting your pay? I don't get how they can do that.
Yes, adjusting my pay. I'm currently the only mom on my team, but there are a number of recently married women, and I think they don't want to have to allow anyone else to have a flex schedule, so they're revoking mine. It's BS!

My mom did this for my first and it did make it easier. I wanted her to do it this time and she usually always visits this time of year, but my sister has to have major surgery so my mom is taking care of her instead.

I wrote a response to this awhile ago but I guess it never posted. That sucks about your job i used to work 7:30-4:30 and about 10 mins from my house, 15 if traffic but I had to move offices in order to get a promotion that I wanted. I now work 20 mins from home but with traffic it's more like 45 in the morning and 30 coming home. I also work 9-5 that half hour makes such a difference. Enjoy your weekend and we can commiserate about work next week ( I enjoy my job and the people I work with. Just hate leaving my babe)

Enjoy your weekend before returning to work!!! I hope to have a nice glass of wine Monday night when I get home!

I don't go back to work until August 23 (DS' 3 month bday). But only that late bc I'm a teacher and that's our first workday. Would totally be up for a check in!

Im enjoying a nice glass of wine tonight, my last "free" night before going back. Good luck on Monday, ladies! Will check in here next week to see how it's going!
I went back on 7/18. I work 4 days a week, and have the whole time I've been in this position. I am used to having one day a week to myself to run errands or clean the house. Based on week 1, I think adding 'and care for an infant' is going to be difficult.
I'm a little nervous. I'm the only new mom in my office. Most if the other women are only 10-15 years older than me, but their youngest child is halfway done with high school. Then I have one coworker who is fresh out of school and single. There is nobody there who has been in my shoes recently.
Also, thank god my husband helps with the middle of the night wake ups.
@orielle - that's how it was with my first.. The only people with kids (2) were men whose kids were heading off to college already. My manager (woman) was approaching 50 and had no kids, and my entire division was either late 20s or fresh out of college.
The nice part was they had no experience, so if I said I needed something because of my child, it was accommodated and people were afraid to ask too many questions.
this is probably a stupid question, but what do you dress your LO in for daycare? just onesies and pants? what about footwear/socks?
By the time A started daycare it was fall and I put him in a onesie, pants, jacket (if needed or send a sweatshirt in the diaper bag) and socks. I think when Cam starts in mid August I'll put him in a onesie and socks, and send pants that they can put him in if he's chilly in the AC. He usually runs fairly warm and typically I have him in a onesie only even in AC. I guess it depends on what you usually dress your LO in. I would say dress them normal and send an extra layer in case they're cold. DCP can always adjust clothing as needed to make them comfortable throughout the day.

I usually send DD in a long sleeve onesie, pants and socks. But, it's cold in the nursery. Even at home she is in long sleeves and pants most days because she gets cold so easily. But like others have said, make sure to pack other warm/cool clothing because DCP can always switch outfits based on their needs. I also try to make sure she is in something more comfortable too!
I will be sending LO in either a romper or cute shirt dress/diaper cover combo with socks. The thought of the room temp had come across my mind so I will be asking tomorrow. They have a back up sleep n play along with onesies in the class already. DD one was going to the infant room in the winter so she always had pants on and by summer she was older and wore onesies with little bubble shorts over them.

I can't find who suggested the milkies trays, but how do you package for daycare?! Am i gonna have to buy more bottles?
I don't know if this will help you or not but with A I didn't regularly send frozen milk to daycare. I sent fresh pumped from the day before. Friday I would be sure to put the milk way back in the back of the fridge and it always lasted for Monday. I say this because if that's what you decide to do, you wouldn't necessarily need to worry so much about daycare packaging for frozen milk. And when you did send frozen you could pull it out to thaw the night before so it was liquid to send that day. As far as sending to daycare, I sent it in the bottles I pumped into and she had a couple of bottles she kept there all the time so I didn't have to worry about that. For pumping I had 8 6oz bottles, 2 4oz bottles, and 2 2.5oz bottles. It was always plenty to send to daycare and have enough clean ones to pump into for the day! Edit for clarification

We can't sent frozen milk to daycare.
On Mondays, we sent (will send) thawed frozen milk. Tuesday-Friday, we'll send whatever I pumped the day before. Anything I pump on Friday will be frozen.
I recommend having 3 sets of bottles - one that you're pumping into, one in the dish washer, and one at daycare. (And you didn't ask, but two sets of pump parts - one that you're using and one that's in the dishwasher.)

For the milkie trays, I would suggest thawing the night before. Or if your daycare is okay with frozen, you could send the "sticks" in a labeled freezer bag. So far I have just stuck them in the bottle and thawed them that way. I plan to send frozen milk on Mondays and fresh the rest of the week.
