How would you handle this?

We went to the grocery store today, and the kids were being really good and cute in the check out line (amazing, I know!). And the lady in front of us turned around to tell me how cute they are. It was my husband's friend's mom, whom I have met several times, but every time she re-introduces herself like we have never met before. She's a really nice lady, just forgets faces she doesn't see often. DH and her son are pretty good friends, he was a groomsman in our wedding, though we don't see each other much since we all have kids now, and she always goes on and on about DH when we re-meet. I didn't want to push my luck with the well-behaved kiddos (DD got upset about 1 minute later when an elderly couple asked if she liked ice cream--not in a creepy way, just commenting because she was looking at the ice cream they were buying, and old people like babies.) with a long conversation, so I just nodded and said thank you when she told me my kids were cute and that she raised 2 boys herself. Should I have re-introduced myself? Or should I just not mention to anyone that I saw her? Or am I overthinking this?

I think you were fine doing what you did. It's happened before (her not remembering you) and Im sure you are not the only person she forgets she "knows". Anybody with kids understands not wanting to get stuck in a long conversation while your at the end of your trip. I dont even think it would be a big deal if you mentioned what happend to others.

I would overthink it as well. I probably would have just smiled and then kicked myself later for not saying something about having met before.

I wouldn't worry about it. If anything she will feel dumb if she figures it out later.

I would have done just what you did - kept the conversation short in order to keep the kids moving, and not mentioned to her that we'd met before. Especially since you said she has a history of forgetting names/faces. I wouldn't worry about it too much, and I don't think it's a big deal to mention it to others if it comes up.

I would have done exactly as you did. Besides, you said she has done the same thing before so even if you introduced yourself this time, chances are the next time you run into her the same thing will happen again. Nobody wants to keep introducing yourself to the same person over and over again. I also wouldn't worry about not mentioning anything about it, my guess is anyone who knows this woman already knows of her faulty memory.

I wouldn't worry about it either. I've been in this situation before and played the dumb card the next time I saw them About them looking familiar, etc.

There is a lady at my gym who always says to me I think we've met before and she can never get my name right. I am just polite and smile and nod. I wouldnt worry about it. Maybe she has a memory problem?
