I think it really depends on the tech! It's definitely not expected!
Really the labs. It would have to be part of the genetic/DNA testing. Can't see male or female parts at 12 weeks.
I've heard of techs giving the sex based on the "nub theory" or whatever at the 12 week ultrasound. But it's really just a guess at that point and very unreliable. They do have a 50/50 shot so I guess they'll be right some of the time!

I'm just sharing my experience. I had no labs and the tech said she was positive. Sure, I won't go paint a nursery or anything, but we were pretty sure of it. I know tons of people that have also had his happen and none of them were wrong. If its all a guess, then these are some really good guessers!

I honestly do think they are just really good guessers. The sex organs at 11/12 weeks are identical. Some people do claim to be able to make an educated guess at that point based on which way the "nub" is pointing but it's shown to be very unreliable. I know you had a good experience with it - and that's awesome! - but I'm only sharing to say that most people shouldn't expect to rely on a prediction that early.
