Tonight is one of my best friends' bday dinner at a fancy restaurant. Which makes it my first outing without E and Es first night away from both me and DH at the same time (she's with my mom). I always thought it would be freeing, but if she weren't such a good friend I would turn around. Now I need to figure out how to fix my makeup after bawling.

I wept like a baby before handing J over to my mom for our first date night.
The potential nanny is here. She seems really sweet, great references, 5 years in a daycare, one year as a nanny. She is so shy though. And hasn't interacted with DS1 at all. We went to the park and she just stood there. I don't know what to do.
2 thoughts as a former nanny with 12 years of experience... 1. It is strange she didn't interact at all. Maybe try a practice day with you home for awhile but doing other things, then leave for an hour or so - it will feel awkward at first but it also helps the nanny/parent relationship and you'll see how she actually interacts. 2. Honest truth - Interacting with a child with the parents around is hard. It's awkward because you're trying to be professional, but also want the kid to like you so the parents are comfortable. It's also a big moment in the nanny/child relationship because it sets the tone for how things will be without the parents.
I've been watching gymnastics on Youtube (I missed the Olympic trials earlier in July), and I can't help but wonder....how is it that these girls have ZERO pubic hair sticking out of their WAY narrow uniforms. I mean...no hair and no red bumps....it's flawless skin top to bottom. HOW? And those leotards DO NOT look comfortable.
I LOVE gymnastics. I am setting up the DVR to record ALLLLLL of the olympic gymnastics and swimming!!!

You've got this @led!
We were at a BBQ an hour and a half away with the LO. So we're naturally off schedule and currently power-feeding/nursing to get ready for bed - which will hopefully come soon! Also, it's weird to be around people without kids when you're a parent... especially when they think they understand your kiddo/know what's up more than you. I hope I was never like that.

Yes! I've run into that since DS has been born and hope I was never like that either.
I'm really looking forward to the "whys" during our trip next week.. 5 hours (if we're lucky) with just me, a newborn. And. 3.5 y/o trapped in a car.. Shivers.
DD says awesome things that make me so proud to be a parent. At a restaurant last night.. "That man looks like a BAD GUY! The red shirt man! Is him a bad guy?!?"
In the restaurant restroom stall: "mommy I see your vagina! You keep things in there?"
At the gym today "him not very smart. It's a good thing him pretty!" (About the kid who put his shoes on the wrong feet.. Which she does regularly)
Omg. Ds1 did this a few weeks ago in the grocery store. A man turned down the same aisle as us and he started with "he's a bad boy" "I don't like him, he's a bad boy" constantly. The man was a cranky old curmudgeon that I actually met a few times when I used to work. I hurried pretty quickly out of the aisle.
Question. Soothers, do you use them? If so, how and when? It's all about the suck these days...
Kind of. DS isn't a huge fan. He will take it occasionally. I usually offer it when he is in fussy mode and refuses the breast, which happens off and on during his witching hour. Luckily, that phase seems to be passing. We carry one in the car as well to try to soothe him when he gets upset in the car seat, which is rarely.

We've occasionally used them in the car and at witching hour too. I'm hesitant to put hrr to sleep with one though in case ss he wakes when it falls out/doesn't sleep as well/deeply... hmmm
We use a pacifier whenever he's fussy and sometimes to sleep if he's having trouble settling. But I agree with pp- I don't like putting him to bed with it because then I have to go replace it like 3 times when it keeps falling out until he's in a deep enough sleep he doesn't notice.
Well, it's a quarter to 9 and so far everything is going pretty smoothly! She's been asleep more than normal, which makes me nervous that tonight she's going to be awake for forever, but I'm trying not to worry about it.
@led when E sleeps well in the evening she sleeps good all night!!! Good luck!
This!!! Sleep begets sleep!!! I do anything that has to be done to get evening nap so night time goes well!! Today for example he slept the most he ever has during the day and we just went 6.5hr for night time sleep!!!!!
