Our first OB appointment was fairly simple. They weighed me and took my blood pressure before the doctor came in. Then the doctor did an ultrasound (heart beat, growth, explained what we were seeing, where my placenta was, and printed some pictures), talked about how I was feeling, what the expected due date was, gave me some information about nutrition and exercise during pregnancy and suggested what vitamins to take, talked about weight gain and based on my size what was the appropriate amount to gain, gave us some resources/additional information about pregnancy, and explained what testing they do during the first trimester. Marriage had recently passed so we talked about how great that was for a bit. Afterwards we signed the new patient paperwork.
It was a chance for us to check in, ask questions, and meet the doctor.

I can't remember clearly what the OB did for our first visit. Actually I do remember our first visit at the OB was actually with a nurse and all they did was hand us a packet about pregnancy and what to eat etc. That is one of the reasons we switched this time!
We went with a midwife for this pregnancy and they do not do ultrasounds, so we scheduled that separately.
I hope that everything goes well and you get to see/hear LO in there!
We were d/c from our RE at 8 weeks and met with midwife around 10 weeks. It was the same as what others have said. They tried finding the hb with Doppler and couldn't so they sent me to get an u/s. Then they saw that my placenta had a lake in it so then I was monitored via u/s for 4 more weeks.
I don't think u/s are the norm unless medically needed. They usually only do them at 12-13 weeks if you want a testing/screening done and then at the anatomy scan at around 18 weeks.
