TL;DR: Irene Anna was born at 4:48am on 7/18/16 weighing 8 lb. 14 oz. and measuring 21". I had a med-free birth even with SPD (but hope to never do that again!).
The ILs took DD1 to the park so I finally have a few minutes to get on the computer to type up this birth story.
Over the weekend I had a few inconsistent contractions and had started to lose my MP so I thought we were getting closer. Sunday night we had just put DD1 to bed and I sat down to watch TV and felt a little leak. I didn't think too much about it because my water didn't break with DD1 until I was ready to push. I was having contractions every 10 minutes though so I decided to go to bed. An hour later I woke up with painful contractions and decided we should just go to the hospital to see if I was leaking fluid.
We got to triage at the hospital at 12:10am and they checked me and my water had broken slightly. DD2's head was far down though so she had prevented it from completely breaking. They admitted me to L&D but that took over 2 hours to do because there was a baby boom that night. Finally we got to L&D and they checked me. I was at 5cm and they broke the rest of my water and left me to labor on my own. Around 4am I started to have really painful contractions and asked to be checked again. I was told the midwives were delivering another baby and so my nurse volunteered to check me. She said I had made no progress so I asked for the epi. The anesthesiologist was in the OR so they said that would be awhile too. However, not even 5 minutes after my nurse checked me I felt like I had to push. The doctor rushed in and checked and said baby was right there.
Three pushes later and Irene Anna was born at 4:48am. The first thing everyone said was "she's so big!". My doctor and the L&D staff had all predicted a low 7 lb. baby however baby girl was 8 lb. 14 oz. My recovery has been good and she's a very good baby, however we're having some trouble with BFing. Trying to work through it and getting a handle on balancing older sister's needs with the baby's is the current struggle. Hoping to get the hang of it soon! Thanks for all the well wishes!
