We all brainstorm solutions to things we may have no actual power to affect change in. That doesn't mean we can't think or talk about it.
I'll assume you're stating that as a sentence and not asking me. Yes we can brainstorm. I also think before we do so both parties should walk in with at least an equal amount of facts.
I'm pretty sure I have a lot of the facts. I can fucking Google an article just as easy as you can.
I don't think I can live/be in a relationship with someone with such drastically different political views as me. I get that not everyone is "into politics" but it is hard for me to separate politics, because they have real effects on people, from life. Sorry, requiressnacks.
I still like the Olympics for the actual sport, but it shook me when I saw an article showing all the run down event centers that were only built for the Olympics and nothing else. Just wasted spending all over.
I would be all about the Olympics if they picked locations that already had the facilities necessary to host. Or at least limit spending to certain amount.
I do realize that there are more problems that I am probably not aware of. Ignorance is bliss, man.
I mean I'm a hypocrite. We dominate in track and get the medals and the prestige helps out country however I still have feels on all that money allocated for one time use buildings
Yes, I definitely agree. I find it truly fun to have events like this where you can take pride in your country, but so conflicting to think about the $$$$$.
I will leave you alone about this... until Trump gets elected. GDI.
I'm not going to be bullied about voting. I didn't vote for either major party last time, and I can't this time, either.
If you're going to judge someone for a potential Trump win, direct your anger at those who actually vote for him.
I have no intentions of "bullying" you into anything. I do think we can have a reasonable discussion about it, which I am not interested in doing right now because I think we have already done that in the past and I think your feelings and reasons are perfectly valid. I am personally terrified of Trump potentially becoming president and would like to stop it.
And I think that having one host city will help bring money to the poor people because in my plan, they'd have to use the money towards those issues.
What. No. Lives were literally destroyed. As in people are killed and it's usually the homeless and poor. It has been happening for years. Brazil was the most extreme of recent times.
Additionally since you're not on the Olympic planning committee your plan is #irrelevant.

No, I totally get it. We agree to disagree and only have surface level discussions about politics. It never gets very heated.

Obviously my plan is hypothetical of how I would change the way we host the games. And I looked up homeless people being killed and nothing really comes up.
Real Sports on HBO looked into this and how poor workers were brought in from other countries to help build arenas needed in Russia to host the Olympics. It was pretty horrifying.
Also, in Brazil, people were forced out of their homes so they could be demolished to make room for arenas...that will then sit empty like the stadiums they built for the World Cup.

This andplusalso can we relocate the summer Olympics to a place with an existing facility that is zika free???
I don't want to hear about the modeling they did... people will bring it home with them and contagion!

Ok- the way to stop it is maybe doing some campaign work for your candidate of choice. And voting for your candidate.
I live in a state that got stuck with a milder version of Trump as governor with not-anywhere-close-to-majority votes because the other two candidates split the votes. Twice.
I feel like most Trump supporters are too far gone to try to convince.

I'm impressed by requiressnacks also, MH and I literally went through all the hot button topics on our first date... Religion, Politics, sports teams, shopping carts and where the butter goes.
World Cup came first which of course helped. However due to the wider audience of Olympics it certainly midst help. One set of games in 2014 and the other game in 3016 was a lot on the homeless in Brazil.
The referenced article is Qatar, which for some reason seemed to get more press about what was going on.

I mean vote for your Candidate of choice. I may also live in a state that my voting for The Donald would be a waste since we are Blue anyway. Just vote and hope the Electoral College votes with you.
Another UO? The whole "winning all the electoral votes for the whole state" thing makes no sense to me. Why can't they just divide them proportionally?
